Miral Actor, Peace Activist Juliano Mer-Khamis Shot and Killed

Mer-Khamis_thumb.jpgSad, sobering news: Israeli actor and peace activist Juliano Mer-Khamis, who played Seikh Saabah in Julian Schnabel and Rula Jebreal's Miral, was shot and killed by a masked gunman Monday. Worse still, the murder took place just outside his "Freedom Theater," a drama and culture center that he set up inside a Palestinian refugee camp. Said a Miral rep, "Rula and Julian were very shocked at this tragic news." [New York Post]

Sad and unacceptable in any way, such actions of hatred should be condemned by all in strongest way. Since the event the suspected killer was arrested, and he is an extreme Islamist, a terrorist with only purpose - to kill everyone that doesn't think like him. It is a sad truth. Both Israeli and Arab communities do not accept this kind of people and do not think like them.
Now, small correction - Jenin, where this disgusting murder took place, is not a refugee camp but a town. On the suburbs they have so called refugee camps, which are not camping sites with tents and mattresses, but buildings and streets with water, electricity and sewers. The only reason they been called refugee camps is because Palestinian refugees established them and live there, although after so many years many of them moved out. And it is not necessarily poor neighborhoods, some people there live very well.
It's important to explain this because people in the world may not know the details, the terminology and the complexity of the situation, therefore creating unfair associations in their head towards this matter.
    I finished.
