Home of the Brave: First Look at Pixar's Next Blockbuster

Lost in the wave of teeth-gnashing over Cars 2 is that fact that Pixar is still Pixar -- a more reliable producer of critically acclaimed popular entertainment cannot be found in Hollywood. As such: Let's get excited about Brave, the next next Pixar film and the studio's first non-sequel since Up in 2009. How is this one going to look?

Pretty epic. EW got its hands on some concept art from the film -- about a bow-and-arrow proficient princess in the Scottish Highlands -- and it already looks like nothing Pixar has ever attempted before. Which is a good, if only because it keeps things fresh.

You'll recall that Brave was once called The Bear and the Bow, and was to be directed by Brenda Chapman -- Pixar's first female director. She left the project and was replaced by Mark Andrews, but according to Disney, both will receive credit. Reese Witherspoon also left Brave -- she was set to voice the princess -- and has since been replaced by Boardwalk Empire's Kelly Macdonald.

Brave should hit theaters on June 22, 2012.

    ZZZZZZZZ

I'm withholding comment, since everybody just thought Ratatouille would fall flat. Who wants to see a movie starring a rat??? That said, this isn't making me thrilled yet. And let me just add that at least Cars was above average, more than I could say for A Bug's Life (stereotypical Disney) and Monsters Inc (gawd, those "jokes"!!!).

  • Currently it seems like Movable Type is the preferred blogging platform out there right now. (from what I've read) Is that what you're using on your blog?

It also enables an open dialogue between the readers and the blogger.

  • Look out, Tinkerbell, fairies are hiring a frightening transformation in this
Disney flick that retells the "Sleeping Beauty" tale. Even then, it took word
of mouth to spread about how fantastic the movie was,
despite the title giving some clever hints about the plot
other than taking place in a frozen environment.
But the trailer ends with a very interesting sequence of Optimus Prime getting into a fight with Grimlock, giant robotic T-Rex and leader of the Dinobots.
