Movieline's Week in Review: Farewell, My Lovely

Our emotions got the best of us this week at Movieline HQ, where devastating losses, frightening feuds and more than a couple wild cultural developments took their tolls. But now it's Friday, and we have weekend editor Dixon Gaines's stabilizing influence to look forward to. Rejoice, and drop back by Saturday and Sunday as the healing begins. Have a good one!

· The great Elizabeth Taylor passed away, but we'll always have her cameos, madness, and sheer luminosity to keep us company.

· In case that wasn't newsy enough, the imminent Wolverine and Akira films sparked some heated chatter.

· Many thanks to this week's illustriuos interviewees, including David Lynch, Sarah Silverman, Julian Schnabel, Zack Snyder, Ben Schwartz and Verge designee Brit Marling.

· It only took 75 years, but a live-action Hobbit adaptation is finally underway.

· Alien abductions and girl gangs got the close read they deserved.

· E! pissed off Zooey Deschanel, because obviously.

· Bruce Vilanch pissed off James Franco, because even more obviously.

· John Travolta pissed off some Aussies, because, like, really obviously.

· OMG the Greatest Films of Our Aaaaaaaagggggeeee....
