New Hop Trailer Promises the Russell Brand Easter War Film You've Been Waiting For
Well, at least Universal got the message that positioning the heir to the Easter Bunny as a borderline sexual predator was a little creepy. True, Russell Brand's CGI character still poops jelly beans in this new trailer for Hop, but for the most part the marketing team has switched the focus to a far more family-friendly angle: War.
Yes, it looks like instead of just hanging out and hitting on James Marsden's girlfriend, Russell Brand's character will also be going to war with an army of chicks who want to take over the Easter Bunny's operation. Brand's got a trio of bunny commandos with blowguns and darts on his team, but from the looks of it, the chicks have the numbers!
Though, I wonder: Will kids really care if a talking chick delivers their candy instead of a talking bunny, so long as they get that candy? Especially given the fact that the leader of the chicks is responsible for the only chuckle-worthy scene in this whole trailer? Also, is this war just about tradition and preserving the status quo, or are the chicks planning on doing something awful like poisoning the children's candy? Who appointed the Easter Bunny as lifetime dictator of candy distribution anyway? Was it Hallmark? In that case, shouldn't they send in some reinforcements for revolts like this one?
I somehow doubt the film will offer all of these queries, and the real question on everybody's mind (i.e. Do Easter Bunnies poop jellybeans?) is already answered in the trailer. It seems pretty safe to skip this one.
Verdcit: Pass.

I saw the preview screening and loved it. And I'm not a kid.
