Mel Gibson Celebrates Beaver Premiere With New Mug Shot

gibson_mugshot031711_300.jpgMel Gibson couldn't make the SXSW premiere of his hotly-anticipated, long-awaited, reasonably acclaimed film The Beaver, but that doesn't mean he wasn't participating in important photo ops on Wednesday.

The El Segundo Police Department hosted the unofficial West Coast red carpet, where Gibson arrived to be photographed and fingerprinted after pleading no contest to simple battery charges filed last week. The charges stem from the actor-director's well-documented troubles with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva; he was sentenced to 16 hours of community service, 52 weeks of counseling and 36 months of informal probation.

TMZ opted to call this Gibson's "angry" face; I'm more in line with Jodie Foster's "lifetime of pain" diagnosis, but hey. Either way, let's hope this is the first step in finally putting this behind us.

Mel Gibson is hugely talented. He made a few mistakes, gosh who hasn't, suddenly, a lot of people seem to think it's "kick the dog when he's down time." Funny, it's probable the same people who "kissed his ass when he was on top." I don't know one person, myself included, who hasn't had a time in their life when they came across as bad or worst than he has. Find another target and let the man get back to doing what he does best. You do remember that an actor acts, don't you? Doesn't matter if you like or hate what he said, you gotta admit, the man can act.
