  • The budget for "Mars Needs Moms" is mind blowing. You don't need more than $100 million to make a sweet kiddie movie. Writing checks that big is a recipe for doom.

Hi Dixon, I think you made a couple of mistakes. Rango was 5.4, Mars was 1.7, but most importantly, Riding Hood was 5 million, not 5.7.

  • Brian says:

There are conflicting reports on the totals for RRH. One source says 5 million, another says 5.7 million. Box Office Mojo is saying 5 even. MTV is saying 5.7. But yeah, the way the Friday totals are listed here means that RRH was in second place on Friday.
I'll give the studio credit for doing a good job of marketing Battle LA. I don't think that there was a fanboy in North America who wasn't aware that lots of shit would blow up in that movie. On the other hand, WB really screwed the pooch with it's RRH marketing. They went out of their way to say that RRH was nothing like Twilight, and in the process cost themsleves a lot of money by turning off Twihards who would have seen the movie otherwise. Differences between the two movies aside, you have to know your audience and not go out of your way to piss them off.

  • RRH has been corrected. Thanks!

The title reminds me of the Super NES game 'Zombies Ate My Neighbors', which I also think was mentioned recently as a movie property.
