J.J. Abrams Could Become the New Oprah, and 7 Other Stories You'll Be Talking About Today

abrams_scene_225.jpgAlso in this Thursday edition of The Broadsheet: It's Thanksgiving: The Movie... Rob Lowe isn't replacing Charlie Sheen... Megan Fox's latest film runs into some trouble... and more ahead.

· If the news that John Fogelman is leaving William Morris Endeavor doesn't rate too high on your "care about it" scale, consider this: The high-profile agent -- who represents J.J. Abrams, Michael Bay and Hasbro -- will "open a strategic advisory company," with the hopes of turning his former WME clients into conglomerates. As Vulture reports, that means Abrams could be "the Oprah of the geek set," with anything from his own channel to his own line of toys. [Vulture]

· "We're aiming to make a four-quadrant, family-friendly film somewhere in that Night At The Museum, Elf sweet spot." That's co-producer Scott Glassgold talking about his plans to make a movie about the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. What the movie will actually be about remains to be seen, but discussions have been held about bringing the floats to life. How this has never been thought of before is somewhat mysterious. [THR/Heat Vision]

· Worried that Rob Lowe is going to leave Parks and Recreation to replace Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men? Don't be. "There's no truth [to the rumors]," Parks and Rec creator Michael Schur told fans at PaleyFest on Wednesday night. "The Internet lit a match and set itself on fire." [THR]

· Remember Passion Play, that film where Megan Fox spread her wings for Mickey Rourke? (Mind out of gutter -- she has angel wings!) It looks like it will go straight to DVD. [Handbag]

· CBS Films will release Gambit, the Joel and Ethan Coen-penned remake of the 1966 film starring Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine. Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz will star in the new version from director Michael Hoffman. [Deadline]

· My Mother's Curse, the Barbra Streisand/Seth Rogen road trip comedy, will hit theaters on March 30, 2012. [Deadline]

· Plenty of pilot casting happening lately -- check out Movieline sister site TVLine for all the latest -- but this one caught my eye: Terry O'Quinn and Donal Logue have been added to the Marc Cherry pilot Hallelujah, which sounds like The Stand mixed with Glee. [THR/The Live Feed]

· And finally, officially: Julie Taymor is no longer the director Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. She'll be replaced by Phillip William McKinley, who directed The Boy From Oz, and stick around in some other creative capacity. [NYDN]

Like Halley's comet and frozen yogurt, my inexplicable-yet-unabashed love for Ms. Streisand coincides with humanity's fickle fandom approximately once every 75 years. Please, 2012: Be that year!

Is there a reason that "Jonah Hex" didn't also go straight to DVD?

  • The Winchester says:

Does that mean I can get my very own JJ Abrams action figure?!?!?
FINALLY! I can't wait to recreate the time he wrote Regarding Henry!

If everything needs to be remade, can I suggest 1978's The Legacy?
