AMC's Awesome Trailer for The Killing Recalls Cinematic Mysteries of Old
Murder mysteries have both harrowing and hokey connotations, but AMC's new trailer for its series The Killing looks to raise the bar on the genre for good. Let's check out the gritty four-minute trailer and recall our favorite murder mysteries (of all types) after the jump.
Astounding, right? After years of lukewarm mystery series (Happy Town and Persons Unknown come to mind), we're entitled to a sizzling whodunit. We can't keep watching Twin Peaks and season one of Veronica Mars forever.
In terms of cinematic murder mysteries, I think nothing tops Agatha Christie's Witness for the Prosecution for sheer thrills. Charles Laughton is a powerhouse, Tyrone Power is intriguing, and Marlene Dietrich turns in one of the fiercest and most mesmerizing performances of the '50s. She didn't earn an Oscar nomination, which is a black mark the Academy can and should never live down.
Of course, the runner-up to Witness for the Prosecution is Clue. Whatever happened to fabulous whodunit ensembles? It's enough to conjure flames on the side of my face.

That really looks good.
I do wish, however, that I wasn't the only one that thought the second season of Veronica Mars was almost as good as the first. Although I'll agree with anyone that, much like Buffy the Vampire Slayer ending after the fifth season, I'm glad Veronica Mars never had a third season.
Weird that Michelle Forbes (who I _love_) is featured so prominently in the trailer, but her name is nowhere in the list of cast and crew on _The Killing_ IMDB page.
Anyway this does look like it will be good. I hope the hype doesn't exceed what it can deliver (hi, _Walking Dead_!).
Looks great...but they should probably keep that "from the producer of Cold Case" thing a secret....that show was formulaic, manipulative drivel.
