Elton John Upset About Disney's Gnomeo and Juliet Slights, and 7 Other Stories You'll Be Talking About Today
Also in this Wednesday edition of The Broadsheet: Jonah Hill lines up his directorial debut... the Christina Aguilera mugshot has arrived... Channing Tatum is Peter Pan... and more ahead.
· With $75 million in the coffers, Gnomeo & Juliet has become one of the sleeper hits of the fall. Too bad Disney doesn't seem to have noticed -- right, Elton John? "We fought resistance from the studio for so long, and to be honest with you, the film has taken $75 million in America, and we haven't had a message of congratulations from anyone within the studio," John said on The Marilyn Dennis Show on Tuesday. "Gnomeo and Juliet took us eleven years to make. We defied all the odds and all of the people at Disney who said, 'this wouldn't be a hit,' and it's the biggest hit, but it could have been a bigger hit if Disney got behind it more." John should expect a fruit basket from Disney executives sometime this afternoon. [THR]
· Jonah Hill, always sneaky interesting. The veteran Judd Apatow Player is considering making The Kitchen Sink his directorial debut. The Black List script -- written by Oren Uziel -- follows the "unlikely alliance between a high school-aged vampire, zombie and human as they try to save their town from invading aliens." Sounds like Cowboys and Aliens but kinda fun. No word yet if Hill will also co-star. [Deadline]
· Here's that Peter Pan origin story you've been clamoring for: Channing Tatum is set to star in an untitled Pan project being called Peter Pan Begins. Not kidding about this one. [THR/Heat Vision]
· More casting! Nicholas Hoult keeps getting big parts. The X-Men: First Class star -- and lead in Bryan Singer's Jack the Giant Killer -- has signed up for the zombie romance Warm Bodies. Brains! Hearts! [Wrap]
· Even more casting! Leslie Bibb will head up the ABC pilot Good Christian Bitches, based on the book by Kim Gatlin. It sounds like Desperate Housewives, but younger. And bitchier. [Deadline]
· Angelica Huston is writing a memoir about her famous family and famous relationship with Jack Nicholson. Before you get too excited, the untitled tome is set to be released in 2013. [Yahoo!]
· And that's when you found out that William Shatner sold a kidney stone to help a family get a house with Habitat for Humanity. [IMDb]
· The police won't release Christina Aguilera's mugshot, but those crafty folks at E! got a hold of it. Happy Wednesday! [E!]
