Memo to Culture: Amber Heard's Been Openly Gay For a While Now

Breathless headlines today trumpeted the news that Amber Heard -- the comely, clothes-allergic starlet from such titles as Alpha Dog, The Informers, Zombieland, The Stepfather and the upcoming Drive Angry 3D and The Rum Diaries -- has confirmed her status as an out-and-proud lesbian. What a revelation! A while ago, anyway.

Let me just put it this way: When a couple makes a documented public appearance at a same-sex marriage rally over the summer as "actress Amber Heard [...] with her girlfriend Tasya van Ree," speaking at GLAAD's 25th anniversary event months later isn't exactly what I'd call charging out of the closet. Maybe the Heard-hosted art installation for van Ree's work in February and August might have signaled a relatively openness to the relationship they've since acknowledged carrying on since, uh, 2008, when Heard made her debut as van Ree's scantily-clad muse.

Anyway, just saying! Good for Heard, making the most of the moment -- just in time for Drive Angry's big winter push. As for the rest of the media on this particular beat, think of all the celebrity gays you might actually spot if you were paying attention. Get with it, kids!
