Roman Polanski Reaps Big Rewards At European Film Awards
If there's one thing Europe loves even more than a charismatic dictator, it's a convicted sex offender on the lam. Yes, Roman Polanski's Ghost Writer was the big winner at the European Film Awards last night, nabbing the statue for Best Director, Best Actor (for Ewan McGregor), Best Screenplay and Best Picture, among other accolades. But even though I mock, truth be told, The Ghost Writer is an excellent movie and it's a bit of shame that it didn't make a bigger impact over here. A full list of the winners after the break.[Deadline]

Good for him. Cue haters deluge in 3...2...1...
We should all feel comfort that we live in a society wherein such praise is lauded upon a child rapist who has never paid for his crime.
Worst of all, this was an AWFUL movie.
Classic. What a splendid use of your time, this comment. Mr. Polanski is the toast of the film world, jetting about the most glamourous cities in Europe, generally living up his golden years in a style and fashion few ever do. And here you are, typing your bitter little words into these comments.
What a sad person you must be.
Would you let him babysit your daughter? And if you give Polanski a pass, will you go see Mel in THE BEAVER?
I guess not just emotionally.
To each his own, of course, and Polanski did have some issues come up while he was trying to finish the thing, but did you see it? I will say Olivia Williams and Pierce Brosnan and Tom Wilkinson were pretty good in it.
I don't have a daughter, and ya, I'll probably go see 'The Beaver'.
Besides, why would I pick Mr. Polanski to babysit my fictitious daughter when we all know that Sir Michael Caine is the world's greatest babysitter?
He paid her.
