New American Idol Promos: Steven and J-Lo Give Caring a Shot

I've been dreading (and sort of anticipating) this moment for fortnights, but here we are: The first promos for American Idol's 10th season with Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez are out. How sincere is Steven's glance? How earnest are Jennifer's head nods? How frightening is Randy's new facial hair? Join us for the scares.

In the second clip, Jennifer Lopez does DioGuardian things with her neck (also known as "feeling the music") while Steven Tyler continues to look like a hybrid of Heidi Fleiss and Snoopy's brother Spike. That's about what we expected, right? Some harmless support from J-Lo and some vaguely confused facial movements from Steven? OK. This doesn't add much to the discussion.

As for the contestants, the only one I dug was the first woman in the second video. That was soul! The prime reason I care about American Idol is the vindication of the season six's unjustly booted Melinda Doolittle and LaKisha Jones, so consider me thrilled for this new girl. Hopefully she'll take a larger little piece of America's heart than Crystal Bowersox.
