Which Glee Cast Members Are in Danger of Being Replaced?

This week Glee creator Ryan Murphy announced that he will be kicking several of his New Directions stars to the curb in 2012 because "there is nothing more depressing than a high schooler with a bald spot." Well, except for a middle-aged white-rapping teacher who chooses to relive his glory days by dancing suggestively in front of a packed high school auditorium...but I digress. This is a serious threat for not only devoted Gleeks, but for the less talented, more aged actors posing as promgoers. (I'm talking to you, Monteith). Below, Movieline identifies which stars are highest on the endangered Glee-cies list.

1. Cory Monteith (Most Endangered)

Real Age: 28

To camouflage Monteith into the cast of supposed "teenagers," Finn Hudson regularly wears a letterman jacket, spouts dopey comments about life, and looks confused. By the time 2012 rolls around and Monteith's frown lines deepen though, it will be difficult to believe a 30-year-old accepting a high school diploma without a subplot about how Finn was held back for three years to deal with his father's death.

2. Mark Salling

Real Age: 28

Salling is slightly more believable playing a character over a decade younger than him, only because his leathery skin could just be a side effect of hard-living, soda machine-thieving and cougar hunting. But if earlier rumors are to be believed, Ryan Murphy is already trying to usher Mark Salling out of the cast for focusing too much on his solo music career.

3. Dianna Agron

Real Age: 24

Teen pregnancy has wizened Quinn Fabray beyond her years and it shows. The cheerleader and McKinley High Queen Bee could believably graduate next year (after a summer of taking advanced placement courses), enroll at a Christian college and maintain her promise ring-protected relationship with Sam (Chord Overstreet), long-distance-style.

4. Naya Rivera

Real Age: 23

Although actually younger than some of her cast mates, Rivera's character Santana has probably already slept with every eligible football player within a 30 mile radius. So either Santana needs to start lowering her already bargain basement standards, take an oath of abstinence or flee town. Otherwise, she'll just get bored.

5. Lea Michele

Real Age: 24

The most talented member of the cast, Michele could play hardball before 2012 and flee her star-making series for the big screen and/or a premium cable series more befitting of scantily-clad layouts in GQ.

6. Jenna Ushkowitz

Real Age: 24

Thick eyeliner, blue-highlighted hair and goth apparel will conceal her age more than the above castmates' wardrobes will...but not indefinitely.

7. Kevin McHale

Real Age: 22

Same goes with glasses, argyle sweater vests and leather gloves.

8. Amber Riley

Real Age: 24

The actress with the baby face and Aretha voice is secure next to her older-looking cast mates. And even when Mercedes does (potentially) graduate in 2012, I could see her still guest-starring as the teacher of a rival glee club...but that might require an advanced degree first.

9. Heather Morris

Real Age: 23

Although she may look more mature than some her peers, Heather Morris holds the golden ticket among the Glee cast, in that her ditzy character Brittany could convincingly be held back at McKinley High for an eternity.

10. Chris Colfer (Least Endangered)

Real Age: 20

Well, who would want to get rid of Kurt?

The only student I still care about it Becky Jackson. Can her reign of terror as mini-Sue continue after the bloom is off the rose? Lima ain't big enough for two tough old broads in tracksuits.

  • Tess says:

Actually I'd Place Mark above Cory.. he's got a baby face that still makes him look younger than Mark.
Interesting that Harry Shum is older than Cory.

  • Citizen Bitch says:

what year are they supposed to be anyways? i think rachel was a sophomore the first season, but i'm not sure
it's funny how the show is obsessed with high school hierarchies based on looks, promiscuity, sports, activities, etc., but completely ignores the prime hierarchy component of class year

  • RobertinLA says:

HUGE MISTAKE!!! You get rid of Lea Michelle and this show will collapse! I don't even think it's true. They all still look like kids. Ridiculous. They are gonna piss off a lot of fans. The minute tv shows start making changes like this...they start to lose ratings. HUGE MISTAKE!!!!

  • gfhgf says:

keep: Santana , Brittany, Tina, Artie and Mercedes
i will still watch if these people stay!!!! I think Fin and Puck could leave with no problem and i might miss Quinn but you can get rid of rachel i dont mind but i think other people
but i think that they could easily extend the school year to 2 seasons and keep them for longer!

    Dear ML,
In this day and age of "googleosity" I realize that it's easier now, more than ever, to accurately date people. But you don't help the cause by revealing these people's true ages.
I don't watch "Glee" and am not a huge fan of the show (because I don't watch, not for any fault of the show) so I'm not commenting as a fan.
But I do remember when the: "Andrea's really 30!" stuff hit "Beverly Hills 90210" and it was a disservice to viewers everywhere.
    Yeah, I know...
    "Suck it, old person."

  • TurdBlossom says:

    Is this still on?

  • Jamie says:

Kurt always struck me as the precociously talented freshman and Rachel was the super-threatened sophomore.
I don't know if I'd want Glee to be around for years and years. I love the show, especially this cast, and I just think that a revolving door cast would kinda suck (see Bones and its "intern of the week"). It should end on a high note with their graduation. But that's just me.

  • CCF says:

I dont know. I stopped watching it after about the 4th episode of Season 1 because I felt like it was being written by a 12 year old girl with ADD. Ridiculous subplots and storylines that really betrayed the original premise of the story (the same problem occurred quite often on their other creation, "Nip/Tuck"). I think the stars of the show need to take a break from posing for magazine covers for a while too (Matthew Morrison, after posing for the cover of Details, your chest hair has called, they would like their chest back).

  • mistersnark says:

It is going to be tough to say, "OK, here's a brand new cast of New Directions...deal with it." I see maybe two seasons without Finn and Puck, but after that it's over. Ryan Murphy should do the "Lost" thing and announce an end date of, say, May 2013.

  • Topher says:

Glee ignores class ranking because so far the kids have all been in the same grade. Sam is the first character that is "younger" than the rest of the cast. If anything I see this as a ploy to keep cast members in line and test the waters for an NYC based college show starring the three divas (Kurt, Mercedes, and Rachel) who could all end up at NYU, Columbia, or AMDA. Also, just because they graduate doesn't mean that they will be off of the show. It could be like Dawson's Creek or Degrassi that feature the same characters at different stages.

  • Lauren says:

Friday Night Lights is a show, that has managed to successfully bring in new cast members and graduate the older ones intermittently. Obviously, Glee in no way matches the caliber of FNL, or the seriousness of the content. However, if they close each cast member's story in a compelling way, and introduce new fresh talent, I think Glee will be okay. They really need to give focus on how Will and the rest of the staff impact the kids lives, so there is something to ground the show through cast changes.

  • Mo says:

The two they claim will graduate the earliest (Cory and Mark) are my reasons for watching. So I guess if they graduate from Glee, I will too.

  • How about a pirate-themed "All the Single Mateys"? No need to thank me until next year's VMAs.

  • VICKI says:

Sorry Ryan you will be making a huge mistake if you take off the cast of Glee. The show rocks , I always thought if something is not broke , why fix it.
    Bad move

  • isabella says:

As long as Kurt and Blaine(Chris colder and Darren criss) stay I will. They are the best cupple ever!!!!
I really want things to turn out well for Kurt but I think they bringing in that warbler dude was the best idea it makes their relationship more realistic. I would get did of Rachael and Finn if anyone.

  • Gleek_Freak says:

    Wasn't there an old Glee?

    what about blaine
