New Poster for The King's Speech Focuses on Old Timey Microphone, Colin Firth's Pores

When Movieline asked The King's Speech director Tom Hooper about his film's horrible excuse for a movie poster, the candid Oscar contender summed it up like so: "I hate it. I hate it. And it is not going to ever be on any cinema walls. It will be replaced. It's a train smash. It's a train smash." With that in mind, it's time to take a look at The Weinstein Company's replacement poster for The King's Speech, which dispenses from shady Photoshopping techniques for a microphone and Colin Firth's skin. Progress?

Yep! Admittedly, anything would be better than the first poster, but this one feels classy and minimalist. The only problem? Firth's pores are distractingly noticeable. As Kenan Thompson would say: What's up with that?

Reminds me of TWC's second poster for The Great Debaters (domestic box office: $30,236,407), which was just a B&W cut-out of Denzel Washington on a plain yellow background.

Maybe they will get third time lucky with the DVD and Blu-ray covers. This is another awful poster. Time to fire their marketing people, perhaps?

Who cares about the pores on the skin? It would look odd and unrealistic (like the last poster) if they photoshopped the pores out. You would see those pores on any person so why not on the king?
