The Rent is Too Damn High's Jimmy McMillan Gets Immortalized in Documentary Form

Remember Jimmy McMillan? Of course you do! The New York state gubernatorial candidate from "The Rent is Too Damn High" party was all the rage back in late October, when his crazy debate antics led to viral videos, Saturday Night Live impersonations and the other accouterments that come with 15 minutes of fame. Like a documentary.

That's right: McMillan and his aggressive facial hair are probably coming to a content delivery system near you. Thanks to 91 intrepid investors, filmmakers Aaron Fisher-Cohen and Kristian Almgren received just enough funding over Thanksgiving to finish editing their McMillan-centric documentary, DAMN! "It's always amazing when a group of people both strangers, family and friends can get together and make something happen," Cohen wrote to Movieline in an e-mail. "We're fired up!"

Their goal now is to finish the editing process in the next couple of months, with eyes on debuting the film at SXSW in March. But won't the Jimmy McMillan hype-machine be out of gas by the time 2011 arrives, if it isn't sputtering on fumes already? "Great art is often timeless," Cohen wrote. "I don't expect Jimmy McMillan to be very popular upon the release, but I don't think that will hinder our story, or who he is as a person, which is what will make this film great." Considering that McMillan, is a Vietnam veteran, martial arts expert and former postal worker -- in addition to failed gubernatorial candidate -- here's guessing he has a Philippe Petit-like staying power. With facial hair.

Check out a brief teaser trailer below, and keep your eyes peeled for more on DAMN! in the coming months.
