New Rabbit Hole Poster: Heavy-Handed or Just Accurate?
We've been warned about Rabbit Hole's unremarkable qualities, but I'm still jonesing to see it. Its Pulitzer-winning source material is a modern classic, the flawless Dianne Wiest co-stars, and no holiday season is complete without a big cinematic downer. But in a new poster for the film, the devastation that pervades Nicole Kidman's life is captured in an image that might be suitable for something less classic -- like, say, a Zoloft ad.
The "stages of grief" conceit is novel, but the image smacks of a Claritin spot in Time for me. Fortunately, Kidman looks sincerely bereaved. Perhaps we're closer to reacquainting ourselves with the convincing thesp of To Die For than we think.
Of course, I'm still a little bummed that Cynthia Nixon didn't reprise her Broadway role here, but I'm giving Kidman's poster-ready anguish an A- and the entire poster a C. What do you think?

"Unremarkable qualities"? Are you kidding? This movie is getting fantastic reviews (it's currently at 89% at Rottentomatoes) and just got four Independent Spirit nods (Best director, Best Actress, Best Actor and Best screenplay)! Just because one Movieline critic (an obvious Kidman hater) didn't like the film doesn't mean it's not great. How about you actually see it to decide whether it's 'remarkable' or not? And seriously, do you really think Kidman hasn't been great since 'To Die For'? What about Dogville? Birth? Moulin Rouge? The Others? The Hours? Margot at the Wedding? Is it still cool to bash her these days? And to pretend she isn't a great actress?
Oy, Movieline needs to get with the program. The movie is fabulous, this poster is fabulous and Kidman is back in a big way. I for one would love to hear something POSITIVE on this site instead of bitchy/mean-spirited gossip. Is this Movieline or Cattyline? Start writing about films and stop with the celebrity trash talk.
"I’m still a little bummed that Cynthia Nixon didn’t reprise her Broadway role here".
Awww...You're bummed that poor little and so talented Cynthia Nixon didn't get that role over mean, ugly, 'just okay' Nicole Kidman? Maybe Nixon should have done what Kidman did. Buy the rights of the play, hire John Cameron Mitchell, David Lindsay-Abaire, Aaron Eckhart, Dianne Wiest, make the film in 28 days with a very, very small budget, go to Toronto, find a distributor for the film and more importantly, give a great, award-worthy performance in it. But of course, let's not give Nicole Kidman any credit. Let's make another tiresome, cruel joke about her face instead. Pfffftttt....

Whatever Nicole is paying her face doctors can't be nearly as much as she's paying these publicists.
"The only way out is through."
NIN reference! Sorry, but I've always thought that phrase was 'catchy', so.
J'adore.
I wasn't going to mention it, but I knew that phrase from the lyrics of an Alanis Morissette song. Ahem. As you were.
I think "stages of grief" is an oversimplification of what's going on here. The design is really great. Considering the film is obviously a downer/weep-fest, it's pretty difficult to make a poster that's visually arresting/eye-catching without betraying the nature of the film, but they managed to pull it off. Kudos.
Stolidog is a typical hater. Unfunny joke about Kidman's face? Check! Calling people who defend her 'her publicists'? Check! Next is probably an attack on Kidman as a mother. Or maybe yet another unfunny, disgusting joke about her face. Again.
Did you intentionally go for an onomatopoeia with that name of yours? Because it sure reads like what comes out of one's butt after a spicy meal.
If you don't like what what's written here, may I suggest an issue of Highlights, or Tiger Beat?
I quite like the poster and will probably see the movie. Agree with everyone above: weird angry fans do sound like publicists, and Nicole Kidman does seem to be an undeserved target at movieline based on all the articles of her. I think she's been fantastic in heaps of movies since To Die For, though that was definitely a highlight.
