Suck It, Kanye: David Lynch Breaks Off Fall's Best Pop Single
Bludgeoned from all sides by hype (Nicki Minaj), hubris (Kanye West), cosmetically enhanced treacle (Katy Perry) and/or some unholy hybrid of all three (Glee), I can't really overstate the palliative rush to be had from David Lynch's swell new electro-pop single "Good Day Today." Yes -- that David Lynch. And yes -- it lives up to its name.
Sure, you may have hoped the 64-year-old filmmaker's latest artistic statement might be, you know, a movie -- or anything restoring him to cinematic supremacy after far too long away. (Can we please just agree that 2006's Inland Empire was not it? Thanks.) Meanwhile, this will have to do: An upbeat number of robotic pleas to "Send me an angel / Save me" and soaring incantations that someone's "gonna have a good day today." Just add a laser pistol and a few explosions around the 2:05 mark, and I think perhaps, yes, this day is better already.

Download it at iTunes (and apologies to The Beatles, but where is Lynch's billboard?)

No argument.
Upon listening to it backwards, Michael J Anderson appeared and handed me a slice of cherry pie and a cup of Lynch's own coffee.
So it appears the song is correct, as it is indeed a good day today!
Very cool.... Not what I was expecting from this great man, but, it genuinely put a smile on my face.
I disagree with your INLAND EMPIRE statement. It was a masterpiece! But I can also see why one would not like it...
I thought this was just a sort of peppy little bit of fluff, until I heard in the lyrics, "So tired of [machine gun sounds]." Later, the lyrics say, "So tired of fear, and so tired of the dark." For some reason, that sent a chill down my spine.
*sigh* More "Inland Empire" haters. YAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWN.
Come on, Inland Empire was awesome!
I'm pretty sure Inland Empire is my favorite Lynch movie.
... and here's me thinking the single would be called, 'The Owls Are Not What They Seem.'
Songz OK, but "Inland Empire" is the most misunderstood film Lynch or ANYONE has ever made. It's the most intense, powerful, remarkable experience I've had with a "movie" in 30-40 years. It's just easy to miss the "way in." There's a small trick to unlocking it's confusing form, but if you happen to figure out the simple method, it's gonna blow your puny, quick-to-quick minds. Truthfully.
Make that "quick-to-quit minds." Seriously, "IE" is epic. It's gonna be dissected and scrutinized for as long as there are people around to do such tedious, ridiculous things.
Disappointing news from NASA. We expected something. They made us expecting some important, why?
