Heads Off: New Trailer for HBO's Game of Thrones Debuts

· Because what everyone wants is a new HBO series that looks like Lord of the Rings and stars Sean Bean, here's an extended look at Game of Thrones. Apologies to the nerds that will likely flame me in the comments section, but the idea of watching an adaptation of George R.R. Martin's fantasy series on a weekly basis interests me none. Cool decapitation though. Click ahead to watch, and stick around for more Buzz Break.

· George Lucas has commented on the passing of Irwin Kershner: "The world has lost a great director and one of the most genuine people I've had the pleasure of knowing. Irvin Kershner was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. When I think of Kersh, I think of his warmth, his thoughtfulness and his talent. I knew him from U.S.C. -- I attended his lectures and he was actually on the festival panel that gave the prize to my THX short. I considered him a mentor." [NYT/ArtsBeat]

  • Hey, different strokes for different folks. 🙂 The production values of this show look to be right up there to HBO's standards, don't they? It really feels like HBO was the only place that could take a genuine stab at serious, adult epic fantasy in the post-LotR era.

  • How dare you, Christopher Rosen! And... my nerd rage is spent. To each his own, different strokes for different folks, etc.
George Lucas will issue a new Special Edition Director's Cut (Now With More Jar Jar!) of his Irwin Kershner condolences tomorrow on DVD/Blu-Ray. Just in time for Christmas!

I'm nowhere near a nerdboy... my reading tends to lean in the mystery direction, but after reading some great non-fantasy from George RR Martin, I picked up Game of Thrones when it came out and it is FANTASTIC. As I read through the series as each came out, I kept wondering why HBO wasn't picking this up. It's filled with horrible violence and nasty sex (some of the brother-on-sister variety), the stuff HBO likes best!
And non-nerds need not worry. The early novels are very fantasy-lite. They read more like King Arthur era stories of different kingdoms fighting each other with lots more boning. Weird creatures are at a definite minimum.

what is wrong with you Christopher Rosen? what is wrong with Movieline?
