Justin Timberlake Aggressively Seeks EGO[T]

092510_500_justin_timberlake_104430135.jpgWith all talk on The Social Network's supporting players turning to Andrew Garfield and the two-faced Armie Hammer, everyone's favorite pop phenom and experimental box user Justin Timberlake feels lost in the mix. Not to worry, though, the man who brought sexy back is arranging and attending press screenings and glad-handing to secure an Oscar nom of his own. He may have two Emmys and six Grammys, but it's clear this kid is after the Tracy Jordan dream.

In a move straight from the Sean Parker handbook, Justin has apparently been cozying up to former Oscar winners Tom Hanks and Kevin Spacey for advice on how to work his campaign and overtake those other two kids in the movie. Watch your back Geoffrey Rush.

Working in his favor is that nothing says Oscar win like horrible follow-up movie and Justin has that on lock. I mean, Yogi Bear?

Apparently, theres all sorts of behind the scenes haggling trying to get JT on the ballot. His guaranteed involvement in the Academy Awards will bring in the ratings numbers, but it doesn't mean he has to win. Jut throwing that out there.

His star power will likely land him a Globe nod and really that's too much for his mediocre performance. To think he could be nominated for an Oscar, over the much more talented and far more deserving Andrew Garfield, in a category that will most likely feature real actors like Geoffrey Rush, Mark Ruffalo and Ed Harris gives me nightmares.

What Timberlake is doing really isn't that unusual and I'm not sure why it has garnered so much press attention. An article from Pete Hammond highlighted all the actors that are currently working the Q&A/private screening circuit in Hollywood at the moment - Paul Giamatti, Natalie Portman and the stars of The Kids Are All Right have all been doing some serious campaigning in recent weeks. If you want to be an Oscar player, you have to play the game and Timberlake is aware of this. And why wouldn't he try land an Oscar nomination? He starred in one of the most critical acclaimed films of the year, earned buzz for his performance and has the studio's backing. Doesn't seem all that unusual to me.
