NBC Sked Shakeup: Parenthood to Mondays, Parks and Rec Returns, and More!

NBC just announced a slew of midseason scheduling changes (in addition to a sixth season pickup for 30 Rock). Here's the most important stuff.

· New superhero series The Cape will premiere with a two-hour episode on Sunday, Jan. 9 before moving into its regular Monday-9 p.m. time period the following week. Rookie drama The Event returns on Feb. 28.

· David E. Kelley's latest legal drama, Harry's Law, replaces ratings-challenged action thriller Chase Mondays at 10 p.m. beginning Jan. 17. Chase will relocate to Wednesdays-at-9, where it will lead into Law & Order: SVU (now at 10 p.m.).

· Parenthood will shift to Mondays at 10 p.m. (replacing Harry's Law) beginning March 7.

· Law & Order: Los Angeles will assume Parenthood's Tuesday perch beginning Feb. 8.

· As first reported by EW, the Peacock is going with an all-comedy lineup on Thursdays beginning Jan. 20. Community will continue to kick off the night at 8 p.m., followed by the new sitcom Perfect Couples at 8:30, The Office at 9, the return of Parks and Recreation (woo-hoo!) at 9:30, just-renewed 30 Rock at 10, and Outsourced at 10:30.

· The second season of The Marriage Ref will launch on Sunday, March 6, where it will lead into a new cycle of Celebrity Apprentice.

Any questions?

  • Victor Hugo says:

How episodes will be "Harry's Law"? Only 7 or 13?

  • Marcos says:

    what about LOVE BITES?

  • Jake says:

Yeay! Parks & Recr. is back! The thursday night line up looks really interesting actually, really curious if that will pay of for the peacock.

  • Mary Mosholder says:

So if LOLA is taking over Parenthood's spot in February, does that mean Parenthood won't be on at all that month? I'm hoping you have your months mixed up.

  • Will says:

Again seems like NBC is screwing up again. L&O Wednesdays worked quite well ratings wise...it's a terrible move to move LOLA to Tuesday where it has to face against The Good Wife...they're trying to murder their own show. :

  • Jennifer says:

Parenthood up against Castle and H50? Yikes!

  • Kate says:

Just so relieved that "Community" wasn't shelved.

  • Soraya says:

As long as I still get to watch Community, I could care less about any other changes.

  • Abby says:

Very happy about Parenthood! I always miss it on Tuesdays!

    @WILL
"Again seems like NBC is screwing up again. L&O Wednesdays worked quite well ratings wise"
huh .... last week both LO's pulled sub 2's. How is that good? SVU is pulling its lowest ratings ever at its previous slot.

  • Allan says:

If Outsourced gets a longer life than Arrested Development I will be very angry. Outsourced makes According to Jim look like the pinnacle of Western Civilization.

  • Joann says:

Not Monday Nights!!! -- Castle is on Monday nights!! Oh well -- I guess I'm going to have to watch on Hulu.

  • Sarah says:

Oh, so they want to kill Parenthood. Swell..

  • Leon says:

What about Love Bites and Friends With Benefits?

  • Laurie says:

    Umm... what's happening to Chuck?

  • Amanda says:

Probably staying at 8 PM Monday. Didn't look like anything was taking over that slot.

  • Bobbie says:

I guess that they don' t like Parenthood. I love that show. Moving shows around is usually the kiss of death!!

  • Rob J. says:

@Bobbie: Parenthood competes for similar demographics to The Good Wife (slightly-older-than-CW women) at 10pm on Tuesdays. The current theory is that Castle's audience is a bit different -- younger, still skewing female but with more men in the audience due to Nathan's Joss connection and due to Stana Katic herself) than PHood & TGW's. NBC may be thinking that PHood will attract viewers from Dancing With The Stars who don't necessarily watch Castle.
Also, for the record: don't even try to memorize most of these changes 'cause they're likely to change again the moment that the first of these new midseason shows tanks. (My pick: The Cape will crash and burn no later than its second week on the air. But I digress . . .) However, I think that Parenthood moving to Monday nights is going to be one of the changes that does stick.

  • Maddy says:

I'm thrilled Parks & Rec is back, I just wish that Outsourced was so late. I hope it doesn't get canceled.

  • mistersnark says:

I'm loving LOLA. It probably doesn't have the same lifespan as LO classic, but I really do like Corey Stoll and Skeet Ulrich.

  • SunKrux says:

Parenthood will be killed by the Nathan Fillion fans. I'm the demographic they're not counting in regards to this move. I LOVE both shows but 99% of the time on Mondays I will tune into CASTLE.
I watch Parenthood instead of The Good Wife because I like Lauren Graham a little bit more then I like Julianna Marguelies.
So imho, NBC wants to kill Parenthood. It's utter BS that most of Castles fans are younger.

  • Andy N. says:

Seems more like the show NBC really intends to kill is The Event, which will be off for, what, 7 weeks? They're letting Chase stick around, but they're taking that long a break with The Event? I like The Event better, and I switch to H50 or Castle, depending on my mood (the loser I'll have DVR'ed).

  • Mary V says:

Great! Why not just stick a knife in the series right now? Scheduling PARENTHOOD opposite H50 and CASTLE is a death warrant for the series. I watch one and tape one right now. What genius dreamed this one up? Too bad cuz this is a good program and deserves a better chance to survive.
