MTV's Teen Wolf: Twilight Without Taylor Lautner, With His Abs

MTV's new television series Teen Wolf may be named for the 1985 feature film starring Michael J. Fox but a more fitting title for the adapted series would be MTV's Jacob -- at least judging from the trailer released today. Because everything from star Tyler Posey's skin tone to his brooding stare to his preference to be shirtless is reminiscent of the dreamy Twilight character played by tween heartthrob Taylor Lautner.

Like any passable supernatural teen drama these days, Teen Wolf features a hunky, non-threatening teenage boy crippled by a special power (werewolf transformation!) and romantic feelings for a doe-eyed brunette. How will he hide his secret from his classmates? (Probably not by lifting his shirt in plain view of other students to show off the inciting werewolf bite; just sayin'.) How will he get the girl? Especially when the girl's dad is the small town's deputy werewolf hunter? Who knows! Who cares?

VERDICT: Pass. Even werewolf fetishists would be better entertained doing a Google image search for "Shirtless Taylor Lautner" than watching this rehashed genre series.

Well, at least they got a kid with the same amount of acting chops as Taylor Lautner (which is to say none) for the title role.

Wrong.. This kid has been acting professionally in TV and film since he was eight. His resume is year's longer than Lautner's and looks nothing like him. This series has nothing to do with Lautner or Twilight. How can you make a comparison off of a two minute trailer?

hmmm. i'm glad i watched the trailer before i read your thoughts. i, for one look forward to this show. the main actor looks nothing like taylor lautner (ok. they both have dark hair), and the fact that there is some real werewolf acting going on i think is going to be cool to watch.
werewolves have been around long before jacob. i'm glad to see they are returning back to the old fashioned theme; the bite!
    can't wait MTV!

agree with owlgirl. I was as big a skeptic as anyone hearing that MTV was going to remake Teen Wolf. But I've read their idea and the mythos they are setting up for the story, and now seeing the teaser I am going to be optimistic. They seem to be taking the idea of a werewolf seriously. no more of these instant shifts from man to a wolf (cgi wolves and in some cases DOGS) and back to a horrific transformation where parts of you take on wolfish qualities. and for those who judge the look of posey's werewolf having no fur and aiming to delight tweens instead of being serious, the mythos of the show have it set where there will be more monstrous werewolves in the story, so I for one can't wait to see what they do.

Looks like the Tyler Posey Fan Club has arrived. Welcome, friends!

^^ LOL. i do not even know this kid. never saw his acting. i know squat about him. if you actually read my comment I'm basing my cautious optimism on the mythos the writers are setting up. it's extremely possible they may not deliver it well in the show and it could be a flop, but IF they approach it properly, it may be surprising. that's all I'm saying.
