Friday Box Office: Unstoppable Trains Its Sights At Number One

unstoppable_500.jpgJoe Biden's own personal horror movie, Unstoppable, came in at narrowly-won number one position, edging out last weekend's champ, Megamind, which slid to number two. And it seemed like audience just simply weren't in the mood for either aliens sucking the brains out of Los Angelenos or Rachel McAdams, as Skyline and Morning Glory opened weakly at numbers 4 and 5 respectively (perhaps a movie with Rachel McAdams sucking the brains out of Los Angelenos might've worked?). Your Friday box office is here.

1. UNSTOPPABLE: $8,100,000 (new)

2. MEGAMIND: $7,900,000 ($68,000,000)

3. DUE DATE: $5,500,000 ($49,000,000)

4. SKYLINE: $4,700,000 (new)

5. MORNING GLORY: $3,00,000 (new)

"Joe Biden’s own personal horror movie, Unstoppable..."
    Wow. Nice.

I'm surprised at Unstoppable, since it's about as big a movie cliche as you can get, between the out of control (fill in your choice of transportation) and the "I'll fire you!," "You can't fire me, I'm retiring!" hack dialogue. Oh well, never underestimate the power of familiarity. Between this and Jack Black in Gulliver's Travels, it's like fake Seinfeld movie titles are becoming reality. Sack Lunch, anyone?

I don't understand why the boxo was so low, $8Mil is not a lot of money for Friday opening....and this is a great movie. I was on the edge of my seat once it got going. Great ending!
