I was totally unconvinced, then I turned on the volume and heard that ominous music and THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE AND YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

Wow so the Simpson's thing is a huge stretch to put information where there is none. If wanted to make this believable needed to focus on The Lone Gunman.
Hollywood's job is to make predictions and make movies out of those predictions most movies they make are possibilities. Most never happen. Sometimes one does.
It really hurts a conspiracy if people are blabbing about it in a TV show as well.
As to the $9 for the trip to NYC when I was a kid growing up in the Providence, RI area I recall the billboards on I-95 touting the train to NYC for $9.95
