Erin Andrews on This Week's Insane Dancing with the Stars: 'I Feel Like I Took Truth Serum'
Dancing with the Stars is getting so outrageous that I almost need Erin Andrews on the phone with me as I watch. It's maddening! With Bristol Palin surviving another week and Carrie Ann Inaba sparring with Maks, it's easy to get a little huffy. In our epic interview this week, Miss Andrews discusses her love of Kyle Massey, Brandy's emotions, Maksim Chmerkovskiy's passion, and the possibility that Bristol will make it to the finals.
Yet another zany week, Erin. How did you feel about the "instant dance" idea?
I thought it was a great idea. It's funny, my girlfriends and I were talking during the show and texting. They were saying, "My gosh, if I had been on the show when the instant dance happened, I'd have had a meltdown." I mean, musicality? I do think I can hear beats in the music and stuff, but it's different when you hear the band playing it and you have to perform it. It does get a little chaotic. I was so impressed by the way everybody came out and really seemed to nail it. I didn't think they were going to get time to practice it. That was new to me. I thought they were just going to get the song and have to go. I'm glad they had time to practice.
But I have to tell you, when Kyle came out and did his jive, I was screaming in my living room. He's amazing. I was just so excited for [Kyle] and Lacey; I think he's a contender for the final. He's a contender for the mirror ball. He's just a different kind of dancer. He's just kind of silly! And he's learning every week. When they came out and they did the first instant dance, I was like, "OK, wow. This is incredible."
When I watched him kill it this week, I thought, 'Is the Erin Andrews prophecy coming true?' He might run away with this.
I know! He's phenomenal.
Your boy Maks had a slight kerfluffle with Carrie Ann this week. How did you react? Did you hurl things at the TV? Scream, etc.?
I think that when I first heard them [spar], I was like, "Oh gosh. Oh no." But then when I thought about it what happened afterward when they went to commercial -- he's so sweet. He was just sticking up for Brandy. A lot of the time when the judges comment on the choreography, the way the dance was planned out, the pros take it upon themselves to say, "Just judge her for the dance. Don't judge her for the choreography." That's all he was doing. He's very, very protective over his stars. He wants them to feel comfortable. He made a comment to me one night before the show started about my wardrobe, and he said, "I just want you to walk down those stairs and feel the most glamorous and beautiful you've ever felt in your entire life." He wants nothing but for his stars to feel the absolute best about themselves. You could see from the package that they showed with Brandy, he said, "Look, it's just about us. It's about nobody else. Do this for yourself." That was just Papa Bear taking over and being really protective over his baby. I knew they'd make a big deal about it on all the gossip shows and in the tabloids and on the results show. I don't know if you saw, but afterward, when Kurt was out, Maks went down and -- he's so sweet -- he hugged Kurt right away. And then he went off -- I watched him in the background -- he hugged Carrie Ann. I think in the end Carrie Ann knows what he's doing. He lets his emotions get the best of him, but that's why he's so wonderful.
Can you recall any times when the judges criticized you for things you couldn't control, like the choreography?
Oh, absolutely. Our samba that we did -- I had this gorgeous purple feather outfit with a nude top and embroidery. Our story that we were telling -- and this is why I love Maks, but -- he thinks of these different stories. Our dance, the song was "When I Get You Alone." He was like, "I want to pretend you're coming home from a glamorous ball. And I'm this guy, and I'm all over you. And you're like, 'No, no, no, no. Let me have a second.'" It was so awesome. There was a part when I rip off his sleeves and then I rip open his shirt, and then he ripped off his shirt. Well, Len went to town that night and just said, "I'm tired of it, Maks. She's a good dancer. I'm tired of you taking off your clothes." And Maks was like, "You're not listening! You're not understand the theme of our song." I got OK scores. I didn't get the greatest scores on it. But he really felt like we were being penalized -- I was being penalized -- because Maks took his shirt off. The next week we did our foxtrot where we joked he would take his shirt off, but then we decided not to in the middle of the dance. Yeah, he got really frustrated with the judges. He said, "You're penalizing Erin for something I created."
Jennifer Grey racked up a perfect score this week. If any dance this week was worth 30 points, do you think it was hers?
Well, her instant dance got the perfect score, right?
Yes.
I thought her instant dance was hot. I mean, that's what I wrote down in my notes. I wrote, "Wow. J. Hot." I'm such a dork in that I thought one of the moves was like in Dirty Dancing when he put his hand down her arm and then he spun her out. And that extension that she held was so beautiful. I have goosebumps thinking about it. I wasn't surprised that she got all 10s in that routine at all. Now I will say -- in her first dance, I loved the dance, I loved the dress, I was excited when I saw her dance, but (sighs) again, with all the "My body's falling apart" stuff. I read on somebody's tweet, I forget whose it was, but they were like, "Is she lying to us about her injury?" She builds up this "I'm hurt, I'm hurt, I'm hurt," and then she comes out, does the dance, and she's insane. So I can understand her body falling apart, but I appreciated this week that there wasn't a lot of crying. I appreciated that. She can't help that her body's falling apart; I like her playing it low-key, instead of being hysterical and everything like that. She went out there and I think she put herself on top of the leader board again. From her first dance to her instant dance, it was "Wow. Wow. Wow." That's the girl we saw at the beginning of the season and I think she put herself back on top.
She's got to be really, really careful with her packages though in the next two weeks. You don't want America to just get tired of the crying and the "My body's falling apart." It's OK because at this point in the competition, everybody's body is falling apart. Evan [Lysacek] had broken toes! He had a head injury. I had a broken foot which I didn't know about. We just knew my foot was swollen every single day, and we didn't know why. And I had a back injury. The day of the finale, we were doing run-through, we did my dance, and something popped in the middle of run-through. I started hysterically crying, and Maks was like, "What, what, what?" And I'm like, "It's fine, let's just go." At this stage of the game, everybody is hurt. You can't cry about it, and you have to soldier on.
It sounds like you're saying that Jennifer is the front-runner, but maybe Kyle or Brandy can take that from her very soon.
I'll be very, very honest. I think Jennifer is absolutely the front-runner right now. She's America's sweetheart. I'd hate to sound corny, but she's "Baby" to America. I think everybody loves the storyline that she's 50 years old and she's doing things with her body that are incredible. She looks wonderful. But I'll be very candid in the fact at all these packages and America's vote could really hurt her if she continues being very emotional. She can be injured and she can talk about that, but don't use that as the only thing you're talking about. She has a beautiful husband, a gorgeous daughter, friends who come to support her. Maybe use that. It was nice to see her dad in the package. But there is a guy named Kyle Massey who is so cute, so likable, and so fun. And he makes fun of himself -- and I used to do that, people love it when you make fun of yourself -- and he is becoming very charming to America. She needs to watch out for that. He may come out of the back, the back of the field there, and take over all the votes. Because people may start to get tired of it.

Someone thought this was the Paediatric forum but thanks for the info about anxiety. Brandy and Maks are doing a great job. All of that chemistry cannot be acting. 10,000 French men can't be wrong. Even people who take truth serum could see it.
Anyway, people need to take responsibility for their actions and stop suggesting that others should not be offended especially when you know that w your intention was to be mean. This 'get over it culture' does not fly with me.
Erin even if you do not favor Brandy in anyway, at least give her the respect she deserves from one woman to another. Learn to be the lady in this entire scenario and genuinely support Maks and his dancing partner. Do not let the little influence you have go to waste on pettiness but put it to good use.
Sorry to disappoint you but this untrainable woman could not dance.... If she had any memorable performances they would still be saved on my DVR... There was not one performance of hers that I thought were worthy of keeping...
But I still have Necole's and Derrick Lady in Red-Rumba....
I had the following (actual memorable) performances saved before my Old DVR shut down:
Mel B and Maks' Free Your Mind-Paso Doble,
Emmit Smith and Cheryl Burke "You Can't Touch This-Free Style"
Cheryl Burke and Drew Lachey, " "Michael Jackson Thriller"-Paso Doble
I currently have not only Necole and Derrick but now a few new ones have been added to the list.
• I can't stand Jennifer Crying and Whining Grey, but I kept her Argentine Tango because it was not only awesome the first time she and Derrick performed it but it was even better when they repeated the performance the next night.
And then we have Brandy
• It was Brandy's Woman's Work Rumba that grabbed my attention
• Followed up with “I need a Hero”-Quick Step
• Next it would be her unforgettable “You Give Me Fever”-Foxtrot, what an amazing performance, and when you thought it couldn't get any better
• Brandy and Maks hypnotized our eyes with their beautiful beautiful Waltz, and in spite of Carrie Ann inconsistent and ridiculous critique, Brandy and Maks ended our Monday night with a Fun loving Instant Dance Cha Cha....
• And also Kyle Paso Doble, his and Kurt’s Instant Dance
ZERO ERIN ANDREWS Performances…
Now if there are some performances you feel that Erin Andrews was underscored on, reply back with some links and I will gladly look them over... maybe it was something I missed, but I doubt it...
In my opinion she is the last person who should be critiquing anyone’s dance skills and behavior…
Erin Andrews one of those people who look so good until they open their mouths.
I want to thank you Erin, all your meanness and cattiness has clearly show a lot of people who you truly are and who Brandy truly is. Since your diatribe against Brandy she has been receiving nothing but blessing. Her Facebook page has earned her more fans, she's winning the Who do you want to win poll on CNN and Maks and Brandy are dedicating their Paso Doble to people who have been bullied. Going through something like you did, I would think you'd be a bit more understanding and have a little bit more humanity. You keep saying that Brandy needs to have fun and be silly, perhaps the same could be said of your blog. Why go the catty route? The world has enough Prez Hilton's and Chelsea Handler's why add to the bad karma? Support Maks no matter who he's with, it's evident that he has not had a good year, and at times is quite on edge, so instead of adding to the drama why not lend support. Shalom.
The irony of these comments is that for some reason YOU are allowed to state your piece, make comments, and have an opinion - but Erin clearly cannot do the same. Erin answered questions that were presented to her. Some of them included comparisons to her time on the show. AMAZING that she would answer in kind.
Brandy is a beautiful dancer. She came in with very high expectations on her and on what she could accomplish on this show. I think she is definitely living into those expectations more and more every week. She clearly cares very much about this competition and winning that stupid trophy, and I think she has a great chance of doing just that. I hope FOR HER that she does. It appears to be extremely important to her and it doesn't matter at all the reasons for her feeling the need to win. I also think that Brandy is a beautiful person too. She has been through some tough things in her life and seeing her as a mature adult woman today is a testament to her heart and the passion she has for her life to be successful.
I have watched DWTS from the very beginning. There have been seasons that weren't all that great in my opinion - and there have been seasons that have caught my attention and made me excited about watching every week. There have been celebrities on the show throughout those years that have made me laugh hysterically and brought such a great amount of joy to the season. There have been some that you wonder how in the world they were even chosen for the show. And there are some that touch a place in your heart that stays with you for a long time. I LOVED Mel B. from the get-go. What a great example of someone who is enjoying life and enjoying the experiences given to her. And she was hilarious too! Kelly O. was another favorite. There was such a vulnerability about her that showed in everything she did on the show.
I am amazed at the comments and words used in these comments toward another human being. While I agree that some of the comments Erin made were not made WELL, I in no way believe that she hates Brandy or is jealous of her. Honestly, the partnership that Brandy and Maks have appears to be pretty fantastic. They compliment each other and have the same work ethic. They both have the same goal. If you were actually able to have a chat with Maks I think he would tell you the same thing. And I think he would tell you that his partnership with Erin was just as significant. I think Erin truly didn't allow herself to just ENJOY her time of the show until the very end. I think THAT IS ALL SHE IS SAYING to Brandy. Enjoy the moment. In a couple of weeks it will all be over and even Maks has told Brandy to take a breath in all of this. I don't think for a minute that Erin is JEALOUS of Brandy - maybe just missing the experience herself after watching the new season. Whether you want to accept it or not, the partnership of Erin and Maks was pretty great. Maks walked Erin through a very rough time in her life. They became great friends. They still appear to care a great deal about each other. Seeing the comments made on here blows my mind just a bit. The words being used and the hatred being thrown around is pretty disgusting. I wonder if Brandy would appreciate the things being said considering you believe her to be such a class act. (I for one think she is just that). Of course, we know that doesn't really matter does it because it's really not about defending her at all.
I don't know Erin, but I do know a jealous person when I see one. I think Erin is jealous that Brandy has a chance to win, she's thought she should have won. I didn't like Erin because she thought too much of her dancing, and she just wasn't that good. I think she doesn't want Maks to win if he's not going to win with her.
It's so obvious that she is so......jealous of Brandy and Maks chemistry. I have to be honest Im drawn into watching them myself. It started for me when they dance the Samba....it got so heated that Maks was about to take his shirt off in the end while his friends (dancers) stood on the balcony laughing.
I noticed Erin on the 6th and 7th week of the show where everyone knew that something special with Brandy and Maks dances. But when I saw a video of her popping up on the red carpet while Brandy and Maks was being interview as she interrupted them while pulling Maks away (cheek to cheek) because she wanted to be the center of the attention, I thought how tacky can she get. And why would you wanted say: "Maks better pay for my dinner tonight"? What ?? You wanted everyone to know that after Brandy and Maks had topped the score board twice a week that the chemistry is really with you Maks.
To see the expression on Brandy's face was in dismay, see for yourselves: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0-SbmHR1eU&feature=related.
Erin, please stay at home and away of dwts.....Brandy is giving you the benefit of the doubt but peoples can read and see right through you. Oh Yea.......Brandy has millions so she knows where her next meal will be coming from.
I'm sorry I said it was the Samba but it was the Rumba:

Maks and Erin still have the hots for each other and they still secreatly have a relationship going.
This is so amzing how people twist the truth( TrueThis) you better watch that clip again Maks pulls Erin to him and Brandy helped him and later whan Maks and Erin were out to dinner together (clip on you-tube) they were filmed by the paps They asked Erin if she had any advice for Brandy and she said "Brandy doesn't need my advice she is getting way better scores than I ever did In fact she shouldn't take my advice." Maks stood there with a big grin on his face, he doesn't like it when Erin puts herself down He told paps' All is good ! these videos are on You tube for all to see Erin was doing just what she was told to do and I know for a fact there is no hate between any of them. Maks and Brandy have a brother /sister relationship (Et clips will show that)Maks and Erin are former dance partners and good friends. It is what it is!
Erin and Brandy fans stop fighting. It's silly to say who Maks is going to end up with or who he's dating. We don't know this man, We don't know Erin or Brandy, so let's all just step back and take a deep breath. Why not just enjoy the show? Next season who ever Maks is paired with will have their own set of dating rumors. It's easy to get caught up in the beautiful costumes, the music, and the way people dance together, but let's not forget to live in the real world. Let's respect what Brandy, Maks, and Erin have to tell us, which is that none of them are dating and that they are just good friends.
Please Bonnie, you're always kissing up to Maks on his twitter stream and then bashing his partner behind his back. Who're you voting for again? LMAO. I can see precisely why Erin's youre type of gal 😉 Never know what will come out of your mouths. Yes, Maks gets a kick out of Erin because she's always hamming it up in front of the cameras, but no way she's his type. Too campy.
Gonna be interesting to read next blog how Erin tries to repair the damage she's done to her reputation.
You meant secretly....sound like insecurity to me. If she's so sure of their relationship then why write this snobby article.
twofacedmuch? For your information( and I don't know why I am even bothering to do this)I am a very good friend of Brandy's and we tweet back and forth every day and sometimes Maks is also involved in our conversations. They are apalled at the way all this crap on here has been going and want it to stop!!Maks,Brandy,Erin are all friends Maks and Brandy are focused on winning MBT and I'm telling it like it is right from the horses mouth! I think you have me mixed up with MNbonnie that is not me! Sorry!!
For all who choose to do the bashing I am not MNBonnie My intials are the same as hers but I am mndancinggram and I don't like being blamed for something I didn't say. Get it straight Thank You!!
It is of no concern of mine who Maks dates. He is an adult and he has to make those choices in life. What I do not appreciate is the way Brandy was protrayed in this article. It seemed very negative.
In all honesty, Erin could have encouraged her with positive words but she chos to bash her and praise her dance partner. The message is clear-she does not like Brandy. If she is so important to you and Maks Erin, call her up to let her know how she can improve but do not put it out there in a public forum.
I do hope you have come to see the folly of your ways and make amends. Denial doesn't help at all. Actions does speak louder than words. This is not about who Maks is attracted to most but about one human being tearing down another to make themselves (Erin) look good. So, not Kosher.
LOL!
Very well put. I'm not sure why I went there with Bonnie about whether Maks likes Erin or not. Couldn't care less. However, Erin did not behave like a friend in this blog. That claim just doesn't wash because anyone with even the most limited of reading skills can see that Erin put Brandy down in a big way. If Erin wants to be self-deprecating, go for it babe, but be respectful of others. She didn't do Jennifer any favors either.
You're no good friend of Brandy's, you lying witch. Being delusional isn't cute. Erin needs to get a effin life. Maks isn't the only man alive. She needs to move the Fvck on!
sweettalk, I soooo agree with you . I don't care who Mak date . That's his business . When I read the last part of that article I knew immediately Erin was bashing Brandy . That was not necessary and showsshe is lacking class . Brandy looks better than her, dances way better , and looks much younger than she do . They are close in age ,however Erin looks older . For anyone trying to say she didn't mean what's obviously written down in the last part of the article needs to take English 101 . It's quite obvious she was trying to insult Brandy .
Okay guys, this needs to stop. There is something called the "law of attraction" - what you put your focus on, you give power to and it expands. Why give so much power to this interview when your energy could be put into recruiting voters and preparing for tomorrow night to ensure Brandy & Maks make it to the finals.
I think that while Brandy may appreciate her fans defending her (preferably in a dignified way), there really is nothing to defend. In fact, she could be embarrased by what some of you have written. And why give so much power to one person's opinion? It's time to move on and change this vibe.
Focus on the positives: if you want to connect, look at that beautiful waltz, the foxtrot, the interviews that make you smile - you know, the things that are of Light, not some article that has ruffled your feathers.
And it's time to stop living vicariously. Nobody here knows who is in a relationship with whom. What is portrayed in the media is often furthest from the truth. Keep your heads on and stop telling Erin off as if she's trying to steal "your" man!! I know... it's hard but doable. : )
Instead of wasting energy here, let us focus on an excellent result. Stop this feud and let's get Brandy & Maks that trophy.
I couldn't have said it better myself so I won't even try. Stop hating on Erin and start setting up accounts and get your friends to vote. Like Amazed2 said, focus on Brandy's dancing, before you know it this season of DWTS will be over. If you are Brandy and Mak's fans then help them to win that MBT. They're winning the Who do you want to win DWTS poll on CNN, but let's translate those votes to actual votes. A lot of you on here seem to have a lot of passion and energy so why not put it to good use! Yelling and insulting Erin is not going to win Brandy and Maks the MBT. TV is not real life, we have no way of knowing if Maks and Brandy are dating, we often see what we want to see. Ladies let's start showing some class. You never forget your first, so let's Brandy the first partner to give Maks a Mirror Ball, Maks has been through a lot this year and I think this MBT would mean a lot to him. I know we can do this.
Thanks.
I have to agree Erin's actions and this article have been very ugly-she truly reminds me of a petty, superficial sorority girl. However, she is really irrelevant at this point. I'm not quite sure why she was chosen as a dwts commentator; as if she was a great dancer. From what I observed, she made it as far as she did because she had an amazing teacher (Maks) who pulled her every step of the way, she was very resistant to his instructions-but that's typical of someone with her type of character. And a huge fan base that really wanted her and Maks to probably get married.
I have observed Brandy carefully, she has come a long way. She puts 100% into her training, and to say I WANT TO WIN, is something that you are SUPPOSED say. Why in the world would you put all that effort into training and not want to win? Brandy is a beautiful woman on the inside and out. Sweet, gracious, and has a girly innocence that is so endearing. To be in the entertainment world, and still have a sense of purity to your character speaks volumes.
People must know, and understand that Brandy has one of the BEST voices in R&B. She is extremely talented, but because she is so humble people forget what an amazing singer she is-Brandy is worth millions! DWTS is not the center of her world. I hope after she finishes this season, that she does not hang around dwts like Erin does, I would want her to move forward with her amazing life and focus on her COME BACK-dwts is just another amazing stop in her incredible life's journey.
And regarding her and Maks, yes, the chemistry is undeniable. And at some point you have to just use common sense. Men are not that difficult to read, they are very transparent creatures, especially when it comes to women. No way does a man get that flustered over a judge's comments about Brandy if he does not have some sort of feelings for her. Now that is just a fact-it doesn't take rocket science to see when a man puts his heart in a situation. But, that's the operative word- a "situation" who knows if Maks and Brandy are dating? I personally hope not.
Not that Brandy is not worthy of Maks or any other wonderful man. But, I would not put my money on Maks ladies! He's a ballroom dancer( for crying out loud), which means he's going to always have his arms around a plethora of women that's simply his job. I personally think Brandy deserves better, someone stable, who will stand by her side, when she releases her 6th album. Brandy needs a JAY-Z and Bey situation. Someone who will have her back, and not waver, or be linked to this one, and that one-that's too many women-really messy! On the next season of dwts Maks will be with the next dance partner, and the speculations will begin all over again about his next dance partner. It is what you call the "vicious cycle" ladies. As long as Maks is on that show he will always be linked to his dance partners, because he is so intriguing and attractive-we just can't get enough of the "bad boy of the ballroom!"
But I have to say, his partnership with Brandy was Quite Exciting! A good theme for a good and juicy romance novel. The "bad boy", meets the giggly and sweet "good girl" and molds her into this Sexy Hot woman! I have loved every bit of their spontaneous kisses on the cheek, dips, hugs, him wrapping his arm around her tiny waist, rubbing her belly and pulling her close to him, love taps, pulling of the nose, Maks looking down at her as if he has an undying craving for silken chocolate ... Him ranting and cursing back stage as they wipe the sweat from his brow, and Brandy sweetly patting his bare chest telling him to calm down that it was going to be okay. Such Good TV! I Loved It. Now the season is wrapping up, and this Good TV is soon to come to an end-Oh well.
The bottom line is that the Erin bashing is a waste of time. Like I stated before, she is irrelevant-So Last Season. And it is now crystal clear the quality of Brandy's character. She deserves excellence. Excellence in winning the MBT, excellence in a soul mate, and an excellent and triumphant comeback with her 6th album. Show time is tomorrow ladies, focus on voting, and getting Brandy through to the finals. She deserves it, she has worked extremely hard.
What kind of trashy comment is: Brandy needs a JAY-Z and Bey situation. Maks can't keep his hand off of Brandy, he has to keep his hands behind his back because of people like YOU. Brandy will and has more talent in her little finger than Erin will ever have. Brandy has class, Erin comment is and was heartless and that's why she's getting so much feedback that she deserves.
