Guinea Pigs Trailer: Medical Horror by Way of Paranormal Acticity

Yes, the trailer for this new Indie Horror film looks a lot like Paranormal Activity. But let's not write it off yet -- its medical-testing-gone-wrong premise makes for a great hook and seems like a topical and potentially horrifying direction for this found-footage horror movie sub-genre. Really though, the trailer is mostly worth watching for the hilarious sound effect it uses to transition into the creepy part.

This teaser gives away very little, and mostly relies on the pseudo-documentary text-on-screen strategy to reveal that something goes very wrong during testing for a new drug called "Pro-9." How wrong? It's actually hard to say. Just like Paranormal Activity this one relies more on quick cuts and static to hint at something worse...with one notable exception: This ridiculous monster noise in the middle that sounds like Jabba the Hutt's stomach growling at him.

Once I heard it, I was poised for some sort of hungry blob to roll slowly out from the shadows, or at least a shot of an overweight medical supervisor trying and buy a candy bar from a vending machine while looking at his stomach. No such luck though -- the trailer just goes back to more static and people moving in funny ways. Oh well.

Verdict: Growwwwwllllllll.

Why couldn't it have been about a ravenous gaggle of ferocious guinea pigs?
C'mon, Hollywood, do I have to think of every good idea for you?
