Official: James Cameron Will Make Avatar Sequels His Next Films
Stop the presses! The highest grossing movie of all-time just got itself a sequel. Scratch that: Two sequels! That's right Pandora fans: Twentieth Century Fox has announced that James Cameron will make the two Avatar sequels his next films. This is bad news if you were one of the unicorn breeders still hoping that Cameron would make Cleopatra with Angelina Jolie, and good news just as long as the world doesn't end in 2012.
While Cameron hopes to begin production Avatar 2 in late 2011, the film won't hit theaters until December of 2014, with the third film scheduled for the following year. According to the director, the second an third films "will be self-contained stories that also fulfill a greater story arc," but fans of the original characters shouldn't be disappointed.
"We will not back off the throttle of Avatar's visual and emotional horsepower, and will continue to explore its themes and characters, which touched the hearts of audiences in all cultures around the world," Cameron said. "I'm looking forward to returning to Pandora, a world where our imaginations can run wild." Slowly start to get excited and peak around November of 2014, OK?

This'll keep current high school seniors neck-deep in unoriginal Halloween costumes until they're graduating college...
I heard he's going through his entire DVD collection to find the story for the sequels.
He's merely setting us all up for his greatest technological achievement: Avatar 4D in 2023.
You watch, he'll discover that dimension. He's a game changer.
I'm banking on something of a 5D sequel. The film starts with the game having already been changed, and it gradually changes the game back to where it was.
Obviously you never saw Shred 4D at Universal. It's been invented for about 7 years now.
No surprise here...but unless he brings out some new technology again, I'm not sure that I'll be excited to go see it. Other than the 3D tech in Avatar, nothing was that great. It's not like I'm dying to continue the story
I'm very excited. I really enjoyed the visual masterpiece that was Avatar. I hope this one can even top that??
I'm having a hard time figuring out what Avatar 3 will be about seeing as the 2nd one will basically just be humans bombarding the planet from orbit until nothing but dust and rock remains.
That would seem to be the next logical step after getting your ass handed to you by "primitive" aliens.
What is there to make a sequel about? The space marines come back with nukes and blow the hell out of the Na'vi from orbit? Should make for an interesting movie.
The titles have already been leaked>

oh brother. c'mon james!
I think the best way to go would be a prequel for Avatar.
I'd really like to know which one killed Gargamel.
