Tom Cruise knows how to let his fans down gently, especially when it comes to their ineligibility in this week's Tom Cruise Movie Character Halloween Costume Picture Contest. And while on the one hand I can't believe I just wrote that sentence, on the other I know it's all OK because, well, ;(

I don't know what exactly a winking frowny emoticon is supposed to communicate or why I even find it that amusing in the first place, but I think Cruise is on to something profound -- some whole new level of performative punctuation. Is it bittersweetness? Batting back a tear? A swollen eye? He's an artist, I'm telling you. Anyway, my Ron Kovic is gonna own, so bring it on, suckas! ;( indeed.
