Did Bert Just Come Out As a Proud Gay American?

Bert2002.JPGForget Sam and Diane or Ross and Rachel, everyone knows that for the past 31 years television's favorite will-they-won't-they couple has been eternal roommates Bert and Ernie. And while the two have always seemed fine hiding their forbidden love from the other residents of Sesame Street, recent events suggest Bert has grown tired of living the lie and is ready to throw open the closet door. Maybe he heard it gets better.

Bert tweeted on June 11 at The A-Team premiere, "Ever notice how similar my hair is to Mr. T's? The only difference is mine is a little more 'mo,' a little less 'hawk.'" Now, Bert may not be the hippest guy on the block, but he is smart enough to realize "mo" is slang for homosexual.

Bert's even been inviting some of his friends to the Street recently, with appearances from Wanda Sykes and a memorable Neil Patrick Harris playing the "Shoe Fairy." Maybe they can all work together and try to cheer up that miserable old queen Oscar.

  • Martini Shark says:

Not to mention Bert's "Rubber Duckie" song, sung in the bathtub, is a veiled anthem for the promotion of safe-sex in bath-houses.

  • Lola says:

I wouldn't be surprised. The sweater he's wearing in the image reminds me of something Mitch from Modern Family would wear.

  • artywah says:

Mo in Australia is short for Moustache and is nothing to do with gays. His hair definitely looks like an upside-down mo.

  • Quirky- says:

Please, Arty, less with the Aussie talk, you're embarrassing me.

  • Sierra says:

"There are two things I know for certain: One, Bert and Ernie are gay...."
--Dean Winchester (Episode 5.03 of "Supernatural")
    He was right all along.

  • spike dawg says:

Good for Bert. I wonder if there will be any sexy videos of the two enjoying each other's hot, sweaty bodies.
I think he should change his name to "Squirt"

  • ddd says:

How sad that we need to start imagining children's characters are sexual deviants to push a gay agenda. 🙁

  • Bogle says:

SESAME STREET HAVE ALWAYS EMPHATICALLY STATED THAT BERT IS NOT, NEVER HAS BEEN, AND NEVER WILL BE GAY!!! You people are idiots. Talk about trying to stretch for something to say he prefers penis..."mo"...really? I've never heard that as slang for queer either. The person who wrote this article wrote "proud gay American". Just because YOU are gay does not mean you can take a kid's puppet and try to tell the world he does it with men. Someone should fire this person!! How ridiculously offensive. And regardless of anyone's opinion of having sex with someone with your parts, Bert isn't gay...and won't be. Try asking the people responsible for him genius. "Moe"...as in "Moe Howard" of the 3 stooges is more likely. Or maybe he just needed to sound a bit more nerdy. Who knows...who cares. Sorry retard, the puppet isn't queer. You are so ridiculously pathetic to write this. Find some flippin material! Again...the Sesame Street people have always stated there is nothing homosexual in Bert or any of their characters. The author of this article said we've been wondering about him for 31 years...no...no. This idea didn't come around until the 90's. This person also wrote..."The 2 seem to have been fine hiding their love from Sesame Street residents"...you're an idiot.

  • Nobody Special says:

Your naziesque attempt at making a puppet on a children's show to promote being gay to kids is the most low class and vile thing I've ever read here. Can we not have any child molesters writing our articles on moveline!!

  • youragenda says:

Seriously someone fire the guy/girl who wrote this!!! And who allowed it to be posted!????

  • michelle says:

hmmm. Never knew that puppets have the anatomy to even participate in sexual acts......C'mon people

  • anonymously says:

Well, i was oblivious to any gay theme. My mind was in the early 40's use of the word gay and merry, although i'm a child of the 60's. Now i'll hav to shield this show from my kids. Thx for just showing child-friendly stuff (facetious). Don't look for any donations from me.

  • JD says:

Wow -- there are some sad, humorless people in the house today. LOL!!!

  • From Maine says:

    THEY'RE PUPPETS PEOPLE....LET'S GET REAL!!!!!!!

  • ahenderson says:

And some say the homosexual community doesn't have an agenda... what you do in your bedroom is your business... to make an unnatural act a political issue is crazy to me!
Addressing sexuality other than body parts for a Sesame Street watcher is a bit much!

  • Rhatik Darkio says:

NOOOOOOOOOO dont make seseme street gay for the love of god noo!

  • larry says:

    Sick and immoral

  • KM says:

I am gay and have never ever heard the slang term "mo" (and I've heard a lot of slang).

  • LEMBECK says:

    Bigoted and humorless

  • Phil says:

This is for kids! It is sick to promote sexual behavior on a kid's tv show. What is next? A pedophile on Sesame Street?

  • John says:

No! Say it's not so! And how can a guy with one eyebrow be gay?!! They're geeks, not gays! C'mon, this is a children's show! Don't start traumatizing kids with issues they are much too young to deal with!!!

  • Buymoi says:

That is so sad to drag an innocent show to this. Leave Bert and Ernie alone would you? They used to be my favorite segment in the show as a child and I've never thought of them as the writer is making it sound like. as a matter of fact my brother and I used to imitate them every night mom put us to sleep. Please review the articles before posting them. We don't have to make everything sexual.

  • bobby jimmy says:

why is this important? this is not news worhty! there are people starving around the world, a war on "terror," and families losing their homes. it so sad that the best thing the writer could come up with is some thought of a fictional character coming out of the closet. we are wiser than the animal kigdom, but we have shot ourselves in the foot!

  • Deb says:

The vile, hateful speech in the comments here makes me think that Sesame Street probably should have an openly gay character. Someone has to do something to dispel all the ugly, brainless nonsense that's being spewed by people. What is this, the dark ages?
I just hope none of you bigots have kids who are gay, because they're going to end up committing suicide. And it will be your fault.

  • SpaceRat the Conservative says:

There is nothing "Gay" or "Queer" about Sesame Street, although it has always softly peddled a leftish message. I'm OK with that, since it is never profound. Heck, I even let my 4 year old watch reruns of PeeWee's Playhouse. What's more Gay than that? Paul Ruebens is a hoot, no matter what he does in private. I am looking forward to the upcoming PeeWee's Big Adventure sequel.
