The Trailer for Rabbit Hole Will Make You Burst Into Tears

Happy Friday! What better way to herald the coming of the weekend than by watching Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart deal with the accidental death of their 4-year-old son in the trailer for Rabbit Hole! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go get into the fetal position on my bed.

Oh, right. There's a trailer to discuss first. OK, well hot on the heels of Sally Hawkins' bid for an Oscar nomination in Made in Dagenham, here comes Nicole Kidman's effort. In Rabbit Hole she stars as Becca, a 30-something housewife (with an apparently unscripted jones for plastic surgery?), who is struggling with the death of her son. That means questioning God's plan, attending group grief therapy sessions and watching the washing machine fill up with water. And crying. Lots of crying. Based on the trailer, there are more than enough clips for Oscar producers to play at the ceremonies next year. Nic, start picking out dresses!

Kidman isn't alone here, naturally: Aaron Eckhart and Dianne Wiest are on hand to provide support as well. Wiest is already in the Oscar hunt (and she seems to be on excellence autopilot here), but it's Eckhart who impressed me most. Look, it's just a trailer -- and it's just a bit of wild product placement -- but that scene where he's watching video of his deceased son play on an iPhone is really one of the more touching moments I've seen all year. And it's just in the trailer! Here's hoping the rest of his performance lives up to that bar.

VERDICT: Sold, though I'm bringing a big box of tissues.

If the video gets pulled down, head over to Apple to watch.
