· Instead of being demoralized by the report that Paramount is interested in making a sequel to Top Gun, we should all just accept the news and wonder why it took the studio so long to think of Top Gun 2 in the first place. Vulture says that Paramount has offers out to original producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott, while they're hoping for Christopher McQuarrie to write the updated script. To answer your question: Yes, there will be a small part in the sequel for Tom Cruise, but not something "obvious" like a flight instructor. Anyway, Chris Pine's agent better expect a phone call. Take my breath away, kick the tires, danger zone, Goose, etc. [Vulture]
· Yikes. An additional four porn companies have stopped production in the wake of the news that a male performer has tested positive for HIV. According to AVN, the male "performed in both straight and gay adult videos" and "an undetermined number of first and second generation adult performers who may have been exposed have been quarantined." Double yikes. [AVN]
· Legend -- wait for it -- ary! Neil Patrick Harris will make his feature directorial debut with Aaron and Sarah, a comedy-of-age comedy about a geek (Josh Hutcherson), his popular friend (Emma Roberts) and their relationship through four years of high school. The How I Met Your Mother star replaces David O. Russell, who was previously attached before leaving for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune last week. Harris, in addition to being awesome, directed a stage production of Rent in Los Angeles this summer. [THR/Risky Business]
· If you can't make it to Washington, D.C. for the Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert rallies -- or if you work at NPR -- here's some good news: Comedy Central will air the rallies live and stream them online. [The US Daily]
· According to Latino Review, director Guillermo del Toro was offered Pacific Rim by Legendary Pictures. The script was originally conceived as another monsters-invade-earth film, but executives decided it would be even better as a Godzilla reboot. Exciting, but with a dozen other potential projects on the table, del Toro is likely to pass. [Latino Review]
· Speaking of rumors: Gemma Arterton, Alec Baldwin, and Sharlto Copley are all reportedly in negotiations to co-star in Men in Black III, which already sounds like it will be three times better than you initially assumed. [Pajiba]
· Miami Heat star Lebron James is still on many copies of the Cleveland Cavaliers 2011 team calendar. Of course he is. [The Big Lead]
