Saturday: Join Movieline and Phyllis Diller for I Am Comic at the Bel-Air Film Festival!
Phyllis Diller continues to reverberate through pop culture -- from the women in comedy who acknowledge her as a trailblazer to Jane Lynch's bit as a Diller-like comic on last week's Saturday Night Live -- so it's no surprise that Diller will be receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award on Saturday night from the Bel-Air Film Festival. And Movieline will be there!
The presentation (and an afterparty) will take place at the James Bridges Theater on the UCLA campus following a 9 p.m. screening of Jordan Brady's I Am Comic, a documentary that features scads of funny folk -- including Diller, Kathy Griffin, Lewis Black, Louis C.K., Margaret Cho, Sarah Silverman, Dana Gould, Roseanne, and the recently deceased Robert Schimmel and Greg Giraldo, among dozens of others -- giving the straight dope about the heights and the utter depths of the stand-up biz. I'll be moderating the proceedings, so please drop in and say hello.
Moreover, see a comedy legend and watch a movie with a bunch of people who've made you laugh at some point or other. The details:
