Angelina Jolie's Rape-Romance Booted From Bosnia

angelinajolie_120.jpgThe directorial debut of Angelina Jolie probably won't be arriving in theaters anytime soon. Jolie's untitled film, set in war-torn Bosnia, has lost its filming permits because the government there doesn't want to upset a women's war victims group. Spoilers, kinda: Jolie's film is about a Muslim woman who is raped by a Serbian man and subsequently falls in love with him. Uh-huh. "Among thousands of testimonies by women raped during the war, there is not a single one that tells of a love story between a victim and her rapist," said Women Victims of War head Bakira Hasecic. "We will not allow anyone to falsify our pain." Bosnian officials said they will reconsider the permit when they see an updated script. [Digital Spy via The Playlist]

    view as historical fact

yikes. i never bash ange, but this seems like such an odd choice for directoral debut. a rape victim falling in love with her rapist? seriously? wow. i actually am somewhat speechless... maybe there is some 'he was forced to 'rape' her to protect her from something else, or as part of some hazing thing, but wasn't really raping her' twist to the script- but on its surface, this was a really ugly choice from ange. there has to be more to the story...

  • Warlord says:

Who cares what the Muslim women think. they tolerate child brides, inbreeding, and honor killings among other things in their culture so rape is par for the course. I say make it a musical with the woman singing the praises of Serbian virility and a few dance numbers for good measure. Maybe even her having a vision of her beloved Muhammad pumping her in place of the Serb...

    Dude, it's a movie!
The ban in Bosnia makes me want to see it even more. What Bosnian women don't know is that this is in fact free publicity, and the loss at the box office is going to be negligible.
I guess politics in most countries consists mostly of acting and stories, not logic and facts. What a joke.
