Today in Glee Rumors: Ryan Murphy Straightens Out Kurt's Lover, Banishes Mark Salling

OverstreetAgronGlee225.jpgDid anyone else find it strange that in last night's Sue Sylvester-free episode of Glee, Sam -- the rumored season two suitor of Kurt -- was making untoward advances on a girl? And that Puck was casually dismissed from New Directions rehearsal after hijacking his mom's Volvo and a convenience store ATM? Well, Movieline has the reasons behind both of Ryan Murphy's creative choices ahead.

First up, Sam's sexuality: After all but confirming that Chord Overstreet would be playing Kurt's first boyfriend, Ryan Murphy noticed the natural chemistry between Overstreet and Dianna Agron (Quinn) on set and decided to rewrite Sam's storyline (and sexual orientation) entirely. At least that is how Overstreet explained Murphy's fake-out on Ryan Seacrest's radio show this morning.

As for how the actor feels about appearing topless in every one of his episodes so far, Overstreet seemed hopeful. "I'm the Taylor Lautner of TV now!"

While McKinley High's new quarterback was romancing Quinn, her ex-boyfriend Puck was M.I.A. after a suspicious suspension involving an ATM and a stolen Volvo. Movieline's sister site Hollywood Life claims that Mark Salling's character was written out of the episode after breaching his Glee contract by pursuing his own music career too aggressively. (Salling released his second album this month.) A different source told Hollywood Life that the actor was not being punished at all, and is actually featured prominently in episode six of the season.

Zap2it agrees with the latter claim, adding that Salling was not included in last night's episode "Duets" for creative reasons -- so that Murphy & Co. had room to introduce Sam and his blossoming relationship with Quinn. And so it goes, Gleeks...

Puck is one of the original characters and a much needed GLEE stand up man. I mean Puck is their "Bad Kid" which is really needed in all the gee whiz of these kids. When the star quarterback can get bullied in the school and the coach doesn't even stop it you need muscle. Someone even the bullies won't mess with and that my friends is Puck. So I can't wait to see Puck come back to school and stop slushies from being thrown in Glee kid's faces. Plus if Puck saves the new kid Sam or Artie or Mike Chang from a slushie then the girls can all swoon over him. That could also cause a "tempting" love triangle with Sam, Quinn and Puck. We had a bad boy in school who basically stopped the bullies with fear. He graduated and became a Marine. Now he is one of the most respected high school graduates in our little town.

I'm so confused by glee's constant shuffling of character motivations. it's like they all have social tourette's, just doing whatever first comes to mind.

Heather Morris was awesome in the episode... AGAIN!
And btw, luuuuuuuved the final duet between Kurt and Rachel. Those two should sing together more often 🙂

That... doesn't sound like they changed the storyline from what it's been set at from at least July, just like people are reading too far into things. They've been implying since Chord joined up that Kurt's boyfriend would start out by dating (or at least having a flirtation with) Quinn before he came out of the closest, and his quote fits right in with that.

  • C.J. says:

...Everybody please pretend that I didn't just type "came out of the closest" instead of "closet".

weird changes and last minute decisions, there is more going on behind the scenes than in front of the camera.
I believe that Chord Overstreet is Glee's producer Ryan Murphy's boyfriend, which it makes more sense than this week episode.

I'm still pretty sure "Sam" is going to be the future boyfriend of "Kurt". However, like all shows who have very out spoken gay lead characters, there must be some conflict or obstacle to be over come. Not to mention it gives the Gleeks already rooting for Sam and Kurt something to look forward to. This episode was just a way of introducing Sam and making his eventual coming out that more scandalous.

  • Karen I agree with you.
