Finally, A Violent Puppet Movie For Adults

happytimemurders-225.jpgLion's Gate has jumped on board for a pretty out-there film called The Happytime Murders. Written by Todd Berger and to be directed by Brian Henson (Jim's son), this Jim Henson Company project is being touted as a demented film noir/comedy for adults....with puppets.

The film takes place in a world where puppets and humans co-exist, and puppets are treated as second class citizens. When the puppet cast of 1980s children's TV show The Happytime Gang starts turning up murdered, a disgraced LAPD detective-turned-private eye puppet with a drinking problem re-teams with his former human partner to crack the case. Sure it sounds a bit like Who Framed Kermit the Frog?, but with so many headlines about comic book adaptations, remakes, reboots, sequels, prequels, and 3-D conversions, I'll take it.

Someone should talk to Clive Owen about playing the human partner - he's got the sardonic, hard-boiled thing down and I'm pretty confident that teaming him up with a puppet would take his acting to a new level.

It's no _Meet the Feebles_, but alright.

    Exactly, Meet the Feebles rules.

  • If David Boreanez doesn't at least get a cameo, there is no justice in the world. He actually has puppet acting experience!

Sign me up. If it's half as entertaining as Avenue Q, I'll be happy.

I guess you've already forgotten about Team America: World Police.

i work for Canada Post.. do any of your staff realize that the discs you mail out have no return address.. this if the person has moved or the apt # is missing, or needs to returned for any other reason, all those discs are sent straight to UMO (undeliverable mail office)..... seems like pretty shoddy management to me...and i figue the same is true in the US and elsewhere

...I liked this better when this was called "Alien Nation".

Love it. I hope it has a sex scene half as funny as Team America

Hollywood finally listened to the demented puppet noir film lovers. Sheesh. About time.

Meet the Feebles was made 20 years ago.

If you want a show with puppets geared towards adults then check out Mongrels. It ran on BBC recently.

Yeah Yeah Meet the Feebles, but how can you all forget about Let my Puppets Come. from the director of Deep Throat. Or Marquis the story of the Marqe De Sade with puppets.
Yes, I've made love to a piece of felt, and it was great!

Honestly I was disappointed by Meet the Feebles. It had some good moments, but it was very rough and uneven. And sometimes the gross-out humor was just gross for its own sake, instead of having an actual joke behind it.
On the flip side, the Muppet people can be really cheesey. Even when they try to be clever, it often falls flat. But I did like Puppet Up, which was a sort of improv show they did that was more PG-13 and adult-oriented. It's up on the internet somewhere if you want to see it, but my point is I'm hoping that they'll build off that and get a bit more bite into their comedy.

Hi there! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering which blog
platform are you using for this site? I'm getting tired of WordPress because I've had issues with hackers and I'm looking at alternatives for another platform. I would be fantastic if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
