5 New Fall Series That Have No Business Still Being On the Air
Now that Fall 2010's primetime series have had enough time to ingratiate themselves into our good graces -- or not, coughMy Generation -- Movieline has decided to officially announce the five new shows that have definitely not made the grade. Click ahead for the carnage.
Detroit 1-8-7
Michael Imperioli is eminently watchable, but this detective/police series needs more than a winning star to justify its formulaic and forgettable existence. I'd almost rather it be terrible than nonchalant, but Detroit 1-8-7 can't even muster the gunfire to make its own mark on either primetime or viewers' memories.
Outsourced
Even if Outsourced were more of C+ instead of a D+, I'd still want it off the air. Why? NBC's Thursday night comedy block is still a totem of quality (even if the ratings-dipping Community could stand to ditch some of its slapstick tendencies), and Outsourced is the evening's obvious weak link. Diedrich Bader's rambling snark is not compensatory for a series that relies on sometimes groan-inducing stereotypes to function.
The Defenders
In 2010, you'd think we'd be done for good with the genre I can only describe as "naughty police drama." But, no. In this Jim Belushi-Jerry O'Connell cop caper, we're treated to porn stars who seek justice, tiresome attempts to seem badass, and even a stripper-cum-lawyer who assists on the cases. It's all attitude with no aptitude.
Better With You
In broad strokes, Better With You seems like a bankable idea: Two sisters enjoy starkly different kinds of relationships with their significant others, and we snicker as the perks and pitfalls of both types of courtship are explored. Unfortunately, that's where this series' originality ends: It's a hackneyed and boring show that doesn't possess the intelligence, swiftness of dialogue, or striking performances to make the contrast intriguing.
$#*! My Dad Says
The coup de grace! When Community can write you off with a single one-liner (as it did during its season premiere), you know you're in trouble. This multicammer, based on the popular Twitter account of the same name, takes the vicious, kind of cute honesty of its source material and loses it in a wash of sitcom tropes and glum characterizations. Can we at least order another reshoot?

Comments
I have only watched two, Better with you and $#*! My Dad Says. I like to watch them. I wish they'd take off these stupid Reality shows. I guess if there is no talented writers, we get reality shows.
So says you - I happen to like $#*! My Dad Says, Better With You & Outsourced. you must not have a sense of humor...
I don't watch the others - but of the 3 I named, I enjoy watching because they seem to be true to life.
at least we'll all remember Shit My Dad Says as the show Shatner died while making
does nbc pay your bills? the fact that on your top ten sitcoms picks you manage to name every single nbc comedy yet failed to mention big bang theory says probably: yes! amy pohler sucks, she just barely beats out sandler for most over rated snl regular, position #2. jimmy fallon is the king when it comes to that.
#1. fallon
#2. pohler
#3. sandler
#4. spade and tracy morgan
i agree with the other posters though. you dont have a sense of humor. you laugh at what others tell you to. oh yeah tina fey is funny but she'e overrated too.
You know why I'm not surprised that people here are defending terribly unfunny shows like $#*! My Dad Says and Outsourced? Jackass 3D. If that film can make $50 million on its opening weekend, there's obviously enough idiocy out there for shitty shows to thrive. Sigh.
I enjoy Detroit 187. I like the characters, storylines, and especailly the filming.
I think the filming of the scenes makes the show have a reality about police life. I hope it hangs in there.
The Defenders is the only show i like this season.
People need to stop bashing. Critics express their own opinions. They are not representing our voice, and you should not expect them to. The great thing about reading critical pieces like this is that they get you talking, whether you agree or not. Stop taking TV reviews personally and try to discuss things civilly.

and yet by your own admittance you are not from South Asia, and you are being politically correct. So you have NO idea what happens in South Asia, and you are not stamping out ignorance as then you are being politically correct. However, you are showing ignorance.
Formulaic? What shows AREN'T formulaic? I thoroughly enjoy DETROT 187, I look forward to each Tuesday, and think that the ensemble cast is getting into their stride. Please leave this show alone, and let it live. If you want to dog a show, look at the 'new' LAW & ORDER LOS ANGELES. I am a dyed-in-the-wool L&O fan, and mourned when the original was cancelled. I prayed that LOS ANGELES would pick up the slack, but with the exception of Terence Howard and Doc Ock, the show sucks. The Big One. Its SLOOOOOWWW.
Leave Detroit 187 alone. Please.
