The Event Convolution Alert: The Threat Level Jumps to Red!
In the wake of last week's The Event, when wayward RVs careened into FBI vehicles and anonymous gunmen opened fire on a police stations, this week's A Matter of Life and Death was actually pretty tame. That is, until the last two minutes of the episode, when the Leila subplot -- while starting to gain the slightest focus, perhaps -- turned totally on it's conspiracy-addled head. Read on for the Event breakdown and the final convolution analysis!
1. The plane crash survivors, who two episodes ago were all found dead and last week suddenly all perked right up, started hemorrhaging massively from the nose and mouth. If the trend continues, then at the very end of next week's episode, they will have their noses cauterized simultaneously.
Convolution level: GUARDED. Approach very cautiously any forthcoming explanation for their simultaneous reanimation.
2. Thomas arranged for a cell phone to be put in the president's son's backpack, which was quite obviously the best way to open a line of communication, so he could make ultimatums about releasing Sophia and the rest of the detainees.
Convolution level: LOW. Though I'm wary of the fact that Simon, who seems to answer to Thomas, also works for Sterling and the Secret Service.
3. Leila spent the episode on the brink of execution in Vicki's basement. She manages to hack through her restraints with a broken bottle, just in time to elbow Vicki, shoot her and then conveniently flag down a cop. As she calls Sean to get him to pick her up, two important, terribly frustrating things happen: 1. His phone dies and the call goes to voicemail. 2. A dirty little montage reveals that Vicki's escape was orchestrated. The police are in cahoots with Vicki and they're all just waiting for Sean to get there.
Convolution level: SEVERE. If there were a level beyond that, we'd be at it. And don't worry about Vicki -- those were blanks. She will live to ambiguously harass Leila and Sean another day.
Final analysis: SEVERE. I feel like we're taking very small, uneven steps toward realizing Sean's importance in all this. I just wonder whether I'm patient enough to actually reach that point. Anyone else feeling fatigued by all this? Or are the woefully few Laura Innes appearances enough to keep you engaged?

I'm with you. I'm really trying to hang on, but I'm tired. The phone battery dying right at the moment Leila was calling almost did me in. Your Convolution Alert posts, however, make me very happy.
Why, thank you!
