Sarah Drew on the Secret of the Grey's Anatomy Set, Glee and the Status of Mad Men's Sal Romano

You were nearly unrecognizable as Suzy Pepper on Glee last season. Any chance you'll make a return engagement?

That would be awesome and I hope that it happens. There was talk of me coming back, but nothing is certain. I don't have anything on the schedule yet. But I would love to go back and I would love to sing on the show, because I'm a singer, too. It would be hilarious to have Suzy Pepper sing or something.

You were in a unique position last year because you appeared on Glee before it really exploded into this massive phenomenon. What was the set like when you were on?

They had only aired the pilot when I did my episode. So everybody was just adorable and fun and shy and sweet. I hope they're all still exactly the same way. But, you know, this is the first big thing for almost all of those kids. I remember Cory [Monteith] was such a sweetheart to me. So excited to be there, so positive and welcoming and asking questions. Just the sweetest. I talked to Amber [Riley] a lot, too. And Matthew Morrison is also wonderful. Everyone was just so thrilled to be part of a show that was so special, but none of them knew how it was going to be received yet. I'm so glad I got to be there during that time.

And then you were on Mad Men as Sal's wife. What was that audition process like?

I had gone in for another role in the first season, but didn't get that role. But then came back for this one and really had no idea what to expect. Everything is so hush, hush. I hadn't watched the show yet, so I didn't even know who Sal was. When I watched it, I was like, "Oh my gosh, I'm married to a gay man." I had no idea! I was really excited. I only did four episodes, so I was only on the set over the course of two seasons, for four days. Matthew is super, super involved in every single moment of every single episode. He would come on set, and be like "No, I want you to roll over at this point and drape your legs there." He had really visualized how each scene would be. In any other case, if it weren't Matt Weiner, it would make me crazy. But because he's so clear on his vision, and it always pays off, ten fold, I really felt able to put my trust in him. I loved it.

Any plans to return to at all?

I still hold out hope that they bring Sal back so I could somehow go back. It was such an interesting storyline and then for Sal to get fired, I was just like, "What!? But he's so interesting!" Who knows what's Matt's doing...

Maybe we'll see Sal again!

You never know, you never know.

I wish I would have read your post. But unfortunately the code is messed up on my end. Is it just me? I can barely see the box for leaving comments. You may want to give it a check...
