Teasers For Cuban Zombie Ripoff Juan of the Dead Somehow Get Past Embargo

News trickled out of Cuba earlier this summer that filmmakers there planned Juan of The Dead, a horror comedy in which the titular hero takes aim at commie zombies with an oar. His husky ally tags along for comic relief and moral support. Sound familiar? Of course it does. It's also actually happening, if two new teasers are any indication.

The film reportedly doesn't commence shooting until next month, but for an indication of the the tone, production values and fantastically derivative pull from Edgar Wright's big-screen breakthrough Shaun of the Dead, have a look at the videos below. They started making the rounds a week ago, but frankly, inspiration like this (uninspiration? I can't decide!) keeps for a while. Still, I kind of love the political implications, or that we might next see Ivan of the Dead, in which a young Russian slacker combats reanimated Soviet flesh-eaters with a stale loaf of black bread.

Anyway, I'm just surprised the knock-off artists at The Asylum didn't think of this first. [via Trailer Addict]
