Don't Ask Gerard Depardieu to Join the Juliette Binoche Fan Club
I know, I know: When you think of Gerard Depardieu, the very first thing that comes to mind is the kindly French chef he played in the Queen Latifah vehicle Last Holiday. (After that, maybe My Father the Hero?) Sadly, he is not at all like that character, as his cruel, out-of-nowhere remarks about French compatriot Juliette Binoche prove.
Depardieu (who can currently be seen in the Mesrine movies opposite much friendlier Frenchman Vincent Cassel) unloaded on Binoche in an interview with Austrian magazine Profil:
"Please can you explain to me what the secret of this actress is meant to be? I would really like to know why she has been so esteemed for so many years. She has nothing. Absolutely nothing!"
"She is nothing. Compared with her, Isabelle Adjani is great even if she's totally nuts. Or Fanny Ardant - she is magnificent, extremely impressive. But Binoche? What has she ever had going for her?"
"[Director Leos] Carax needed six years to shoot [Les Amants du Pont Neuf] with Binoche, which turned out not even to be a film but just a piece of shit," he said.
Am I the only one who read all of Depardieu's quotes in this voice? God on a wheel!

she probably wouldn't put out for him.
That is my guess. Why would anyone be that passionate about it if it wasn't ...personal? Turned him down cold.
There is definitely more to this rant. Both Adjani and Ardant have been rumoured to be his mistress in the 70s and 80s. It seems like he has a score to settle. I'm really looking forward to hearing Bunoche comment on this in an interview!
Totally uncalled for either way.
What an ass, Juliette is a fine actress, she was great in Cache
