The Trailer for AMC's The Walking Dead: No Sunshine, Just Zombies
And just like that, you found some plans for Halloween night. AMC has released a four-minute sizzle reel for their brand new zombie series The Walking Dead -- which is scheduled to premiere on October 31 at 10pm -- and it looks positively Romero-y (or, 28 Days Later-y?).
Based on the comic by Robert Kirkman and brought to the small screen by Frank Darabont, The Walking Dead is AMC's first entry into the world of full-on genre -- you can debate whether the failed mini-series reboot of The Prisoner was actually their first, but let's just forget that even existed -- and it looks like the network has found the perfect shepherd to bring the series to life. Darabont infuses everything with a dystopian dread and parts of The Walking Dead look like they were ripped right out of The Stand (by Darabont's frequent muse Stephen King) -- in particular, that shot of the lone police officer riding his horse into an abandoned city. Well, abandoned except for the zombies.
And what zombies! As the production photos predicted, they look great and scary; bonus points to Darabont for featuring women and children zombies, which ratchet up the dread factor. Most importantly though, this sizzle reel (which premiered at Comic-Con, incidentally) makes The Walking Dead look epic. Get excited.
VERDICT: Trick or Treat.
