Fantasia Barrino Opens Up to Behind the Music About Two-Week-Old Suicide Attempt

fantasiabarrino225.jpgWell, this is unsettling: Fantasia Barrino admitted to VH1's docuseries Behind the Music that she indeed tried to kill herself two weeks ago, following reports of her affair with a married man. Isn't Behind the Music supposed to be about subjects who've moved on from difficult life episodes? Or, rather, subjects who can convince us they've moved on? The gap between "suicide attempt" and "inspiring docuseries recovery story" should probably be longer than a fortnight. Details follow.

According to TV Guide, the American Idol alum told Behind the Music explicit reasons for her medication overdose:

"I didn't have any fight in me. I didn't care about anything. I just wanted out," Barrino told VH1's Behind the Music. "At that moment, I wanted out. I wanted it to be over with -- all of it, all of that [expletive]."

"I just sat in the closet and looked at the mirror and took all the pills in the bottle," Barrino said. "I wanted to go to sleep and just be at peace. I knew exactly what I was doing. You can't accidentally take a whole bottle of pills."

Barrino's manager, Brian Dickens, said that he suspected something was wrong when Barrino, who had been "crying all day" texted him, "I love you." He texted her back the same thing.

"Then it hit me," he said. "I wrote, 'You better not do anything or think about doing anything stupid.' And I left it at that. About 10 minutes later, Fantasia texted me back, and she said, 'Already did.' I went into Fantasia's room and saw her on the floor, and my heart just dropped."

Creepy. I mean, even a famously beleaguered star like country singer Mindy McCready hasn't divulged her demons in such a short span of time. But what am I saying? Grim PR tactics are par for the course when it comes to a VH1 star like Fantasia Barrino, as she works for the same network that gave us Celebrity Rehab, The Surreal Life, and reality competition series that aren't very good at weeding out sociopaths. Her consultation with Dr. Drew is surely forthcoming.

    Fantasia....
Soooo, what about your daughter. This child you would give your life for?
You were going to leave her because you couldn't deal with the fallout for
being involved with a useless married man.
Less news from you and Rihana until you mature more. If that means staying out of the spotlight, then GREAT......Too much drama!!!

Hey ppl before ya'll even start hating with the comments, try to understand a time when you just felt tired ( NOW IF YOU AIN'T NEVER BEEN THROUGH NOTHING, and have always had things CATERED to you, you wouldn't understand) but go back to that feeling.. The feeling of despair and helplessness.... you can't say what you would or wouldn't do in a situation until this happens.. What you have to understand is that when somebody is at a low like that they are battling a demon.. The devil and evil preys on the weak... and as human we can only take so much... When ppl are at their low.. don't continue to tear them down.. adding to the injury.. Build them up... FANTASIA has always went through something drastic, and most of us haven't experienced that.. I HAVE been there, so I know exactly what the sista is talking about.. But you can win that battle and you can bounce back.. and thats exactly what she is going to do..... And before you can say her daughter this her daughter that....Its easier said then done.. Im sure you loves her daughter to death... but when you battling that demon.. its less about other ppl and all about you! GET WELL FANTASIA, YOU HAVE MY SUPPORT!!!

People judge real quick and haven't been through anything themselves.. Fantasia is a beast, she's the best singer in the game right now... She is NOT ugly, she is NOT ghetto, she is NOT dumb, she is not all the things you say she is and want her to be... Fantasia got to this point because ppl are always tearing her down and to streads, all because of how she looks and what she represents.... that and being called ugly every single day can take its toll... Ya'll ppl need to stop being so evil and judgemental.. because your day will come... Fantasia, will grow, this will be her testimony when all is said and done... There is nothing you can do or say that will make her fall off.. The worst part is over! Keep your headup Fantasia.....!
