$27,500 for Daniel Faraday's Journal, and 4 Other Humongous Overbids at the Lost Auction
As someone who once purchased the Criterion Collection edition of The Rock, it's hard for me to complain about how people spend their disposable (and geeky) income, but: Man. Bids flew fast and furious at this weekend's infamous Lost auction, and some -- like the $15,000 spent on the pilot script signed by J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof -- seemed reasonable. Others, though... well, let's just say perhaps a bit of buyer's remorse is happening at this very moment. Ahead, the five biggest overbids from the Lost auction.
Suggested bid: $1,000-$1,500
Purchase price: $27,500
Are you kidding? Faraday's journal is nice -- and leather-bound! -- but unless it literally explains time travel, the purchaser could have just bought a Moleskine notebook and stalked Jeremy Davies until he signed it.
Suggested bid: $100-$200
Purchase price: $850
On so many levels, no. Just so you're clear: There is a person who woke up this morning owning a pair of Josh Holloway's boxer shorts for the low price of $850. Priority reevaluations are in order.
Suggested bid: $400-$600
Purchase price: $4,750
Dogen was barely a character during the final season of Lost, so why wouldn't someone bid $4,750 for a prop no one even remembers? By comparison, Claire's squirrel baby went for $2,750.
Suggested bid: $400-$600
Purchase price: $8,500
The suicide note reads as follows: "Jack, I wish you had believed in me. JL." For the non-math majors out there, that means the winning bidder spent roughly $944 per word. This is the Alex Rodriguez of letters.
Suggested bid: $200-$300
Purchase price: $1,700
That we never got to see Radzinsky's comeuppance -- he shot himself off-screen sometime after the Incident and before Desmond arrived -- is one of the biggest missed opportunities ever on Lost. Quite simply, he was the worst. But, hey, great Halloween costume?
