TV Bites: Chelsea Handler to Host the VMAs for MTV

handler_225.jpgAlso in this morning's TV Bites: a View co-host adds a game show to her resume... a Parks and Recreation writer gets a new deal... and slightly more ahead (it's August, folks).

· Bang bang, as it were. Comedienne Chelsea Handler has been selected to host the MTV Video Music Awards next month. "It's an MTV audience, so I'm sure some people won't know who I am," Handler told the Times. "But by the end of the show, I won't know who anybody is, just like I don't now." Zing! The VMAs air Sept. 12, set your DVRs accordingly. [NYT/ArtsBeat]

· Speaking of hosting duties, The View's Sherri Shepherd has a new afternoon job. She's been selected to replace the estimable Carnie Wilson as host of The Newlywed Game for GSN. Shepherd will tape 65 episodes starting in September and the show will premiere Nov. 1. Said the busy Shepherd: "I love to work. If I'm not working, I'm going to get pregnant." Zing, again! Try the veal, everyone. [Yahoo!]

· Parks and Recreation writer Alan Yang -- who moonlights as a member of the band Mouse Rat on the show -- has signed a two-year overall deal with Universal Media Studios that will allow him to continue working on the show while pitching other projects. Alas, Yang didn't provide any Borscht Belt-infused quotes. [Deadline]

· With plenty of time between now and the next season of Breaking Bad, co-star Anna Gunn has decided to take on a bit of moonlighting. She'll guest star on Lie to Me in November. [EW]

· Explosions! Lionsgate has sold the TV rights for The Expendables to Spike TV. Runner up: Oxygen. [THR]
