Sasha Grey, Twitter's Art-House Eulogist

sasha_grey_225.jpgSo I'm bumping around the Web this morning looking for any morsel of sustenance in the Great News Drought of 2010 when I learn that the one and only Bruno S. died late last week. You know: Bruno S.? Berlin street musician and Werner Herzog's haunted, haunting leading man from Enigma of Kaspar Hauser and Strozsek? Oh. Well, the only thing more troubling than arriving almost five days late to the news is that I had to hear it from Sasha Grey. Via Twitter.

To the cinephile porn star and Entourage actress's credit, she was on this from the start, scooping the venerated obituarists at the NY Times by nearly four full days and calling the right shot as far as Bruno S.'s finest work:

RIP: Most of us know him from Herzog's Stroszek; his talents & charm far exceeded the lovable character he once portrayed. VIA Chris Campion," Bruno S passed last night. With him a little piece of old Berlin has gone. Bruno was a repository, possible the last, for all the old traditional folk songs. Please make a toast for a unique individual and a great artist."

Yes! May glasses clink and chickens dance Strozsek-style across the land. And may we never take Miss Grey's finger on the pulse of art-house lifespans for granted. That is all.
