What's On: When Kidnapper Meets Urban Legend

Cropsey225.jpgIt's Friday, which means that programming pickings are slim. Fortunately, Movieline has found a few new options that might make your humid night on the couch a little more bearable. Superheros and supervillains away you after the jump.

Cropsey: The Urban Legend [Investigation Discovery, 9 PM]

If you can find Investigation Discovery in your cable package, this documentary from Joshua Zeman and Barbara Brancaccio is definitely worth a watch. Released theatrically earlier this year, the film examines the myth behind Cropsey, a Staten Island "bogeyman" who, as urban myth went, attacked innocent children. In real life, Cropsey was convicted of kidnapping two kids, and the filmmakers use interviews, archival news footage and a little bit of old-fashioned Nancy Drew-investigating to sort fact from fiction.

Wife Swap [ABC, 8 PM]

Casting producers outdo themselves in tonight's sixth-season finale by finding a New York City couple who counsel others on relationships while still finding time to go out in superhero costumes semi-regularly. Per usual, the family trades matriarchs with a conservative couple out in the country. Hilarity and mental breakdowns will surely be captured.

Eureka [Syfy, 9 PM]

Tonight's new episode is called "Momstrosity." If you need more motivation to tune into the latest installment of the sci-fi drama -- about a fictional town inhabited by mostly geniuses and scientists -- Carter goes camping with Kevin, an autistic savant. Elsewhere, Henry tries to clear up an important issue with Grace and a strange relationship might cause trouble for Eureka.

Monster-in-Law [Oxygen, 10 PM]

Watch your the American Idol judge-that-could-have-been (Jennifer Lopez, not Jane Fonda -- although it might be time for Hanoi Jane to throw her own hat into Ryan Seacrest's circus ring) in this fluffy Friday night film. Lopez stars as a bride-to-be whose soon-to-be mother-in-law (Fonda) tries to sabotage the impending wedding. Michael Vartan plays the unsuspecting son.
