Warehouse 13's Relic Roundup: Pete Hallucinates, Annoys Everyone
There was a lot to be learned from last night's Pete-centric, Inception-tinged Warehouse 13. First, that our Agent Lattimer (Eddie McClintock) can goof around with devastatingly dangerous artifacts all he wants, but he should really keep the impassioned threats against Mark Sheppard to a minimum. Because it's embarrassing. Second, Mark Sheppard -- no matter what minuscule genre role he's filling -- will always seem like he's up to no good. And third, I finally realized I really can't stand Pete. What artifacts crossed his destructive path of overwrought tomfoolery? Read on for the roundup.
Artifact: Earthquake-inducing Walking Stick
Specifications: Tap the ground with this stick and an earthquake will ripple out from the point of impact. Like in Lord of the Rings (except it has nothing to do with Tolkien). Pete spends the episode trying to track this artifact down so he can prove that Mark Sheppard's character, Valda, is secretly no good and has caused a breach in the warehouse and is endangering everyone! It's too bad he only thinks that because he's under the spell of the Hallucination-inducing Telegraph (see below)!
Covetability: Medium-low. Once you get one "You shall not pass!" out, the thing's pretty much worthless.
Artifact: Hallucination-inducing Telegraph
Specifications: Tinker with this telegraph for a few minutes and its reverberating clicks will drive you insane! The man-child Pete finds it in a British history museum and spends the episode unraveling a paranoia-driven conspiracy. The episode culminates with the aforementioned (and hopefully not to be repeated) impassioned threats before Artie kicks him awake Inception-style. I say that because otherwise I'd have to discern Artie's not-meant-to-be-discerned lines about how he snapped Pete out of it. (I hate it when they do that, don't you?)
Covetability: Very, very low.
Artifact: Mark Sheppard (Valda)
Specifications: Firefly, The X-Files, Battlestar Galactica ... If it's a genre show with a devout cult-following, it seems like it's a rule that Mark Sheppard has to be on it. The man has become a trope.
Covetability: Medium-high. Enough time has passed since Romo Lampkin's dead cat on Battlestar Galactica. BUT ONLY JUST.
Artifact: Twizzlers
Specifications: Twizzlers are the new sunflower seeds. Get it? Because, Mulder eats sunflower seeds? And Myka eats Twizzlers?
Covetability: N/A
Was I alone? Or is Pete annoying the hell out of anyone else?

Thanks for the spoiler in the headline. What's wrong with you? Some people haven't seen it yet, but your headline gets printed all over the place as a link, including imdb, so it's hard not to see the words "Pete Hallucinates" which ruins the first 2 thirds of the episode.
Seriously, you really shouldn't be writing about TV if you don't understand that spoilers are not cool. At least give people a warning so they can avoid reading.
The only one being annoying right now, is Lindsay Wolfe.
Sorry, dude. Didn't mean to ruin your day or anything.
Sorry you didn't like it, Lindsay. Maybe if you have a few cocktails before next weeks episode, my performance wont bother you as much.
Best,
Eddie ☮
The premise of the episode can hardly be considered a spoiler. Warehouse 13 is an ensemble at its best moments. Myka and Peter, as it turns out, aren't really the MVPs, as much as they're meant to be as essential as Fox Mulder and Scully. They just aren't. That doesn't mean they're not great. It's a show meant to be fun and that's what they bring. But just by nature of Peter's schtick, a little goes a long way. For me, the show is all about Artie and Claudia with Peter and Myka secretly being the great supporting players. I think that might partially have to do with the backstories being so overdone, especially with Peter. Never connected with the whole premonition of father's death deal. While I don't think Warehouse 13 should take itself THAT seriously, I do think the stakes for Myka and Peter need to be raised as individuals. Artie and Claudia are seriously lapping them both. Peter is just too goofy. That's maybe not the actor? Just that seeing a fully grown man act like a tween EVERY WEEK just makes him look like a cunt. He's one of the best agents in Warehouse 13 history? That just doesn't resonate. When Claudia appeared, I thought she would ruin the show. I never expected that she would be the one to bring heart and gravity, along with Artie. That being said, her new love interest is seriously miscast. She's way too hot for him. Is that the Jerry Mcguire boy grown up? I so wanted The Fargonator to score last week. (And I have never seen Eureka, just those commercials.)
Would disagree with your assessment, Lindsay. I like the levity that Pete provides. I enjoy the show and grow weary of the Mulder-Scully comparisons.
I actually love the show, but stopped watching it due to the ever increasing way Pete is written. He is so annoying it borders on obnoxious. I used to wish the writers would save his character, but I think it's too late for that now. If he gets killed off or removed from the show for any other reason I will start watching again. A great show ruined by one AWFUL, ANNOYING, thinks he is funny but is SO NOT CHARACTER!
