Sharon Osbourne on Her New Talk Show, America's Got Talent, and Her Favorite Film Scene
For someone who launched to fame as The Osbournes' family rock, Sharon Osbourne has since racked up an impressive set of credentials on her own that have established her as a reality TV mainstay. Now, as she prepares to judge the first semifinal round of America's Got Talent, Movieline checked in with Osbourne to discuss Talent's best acts, her new daytime show The Talk, and her favorite film scene.
This fall, Osbourne will act as one of six panelists on The Talk, CBS's daytime chatfest dreamed up by Sara Gilbert and co-starring Julie Chen, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini, Marissa Jaret Winokur, and Gilbert herself. Osbourne, the oldest of the stars at age 57, says she's been around the block enough to add something special to the discussion.
"I'm not looking to shake things up," she told me last week at CBS's Television Critics Association party. "I have more life experience than anybody else there, and my life experiences have been more dramatic than other ladies on the panel. I don't think you'll see anything new about me, just my take on things. I have a really strong sense of who I am and I very strong opinion on life. I'll just be myself."
Still, is there a layer of dubiousness to a talk show centered around four actresses, a Big Brother host, and Ozzy Osbourne's wife? When asked, Osbourne laughed -- with us. "It's only Julie and me that are working right now!" she said, bursting into hysterics. "But no! You must be joking."
As for her favorite contenders on America's Got Talent, Osbourne singled out two of Movieline's favorites as well as a coordinated French upstart.
"There's Fighting Gravity, I love them," she said. "I think they're really, really good. There's Haspop, he's a pop-and-lock dancer from France, he's brilliant. Michael [Grimm], he's a singer. Young guy, accompanies himself on guitar. There some really good people."
Osbourne took no time at all to think of an answer when we asked her to play Movieline's parlor game "My Favorite Scene." When it comes to her favorite cinematic moment in history, one moment of visual splendor stands above the rest.
"You're probably be bored with this, but it's Doctor Zhivago," she said. "There's a scene where they're in the countryside in Russia and spring was starting -- and it was filled with daffodils everywhere. It was just the most unbelievable scene. The cinematography on that movie is just incredible."
We're sure her second favorite is Piers Morgan's Burger King ad.

Zhivago is a much under-rated film (from a much over-rated novel). Too bad the link gives us a very clunky, faded and filthy trailer instead of a pristine, restored, Metrocolor, Panavision 70mm clip. That would have done justice to the great work of David Lean, the late, the great, the one, the only truly great director of the epic form.
Dear Sharon,
I'm not really sure if you will get this letter, but I wanted to tell you I saw "The Talk" the other day and you were talking about childsupport for mothers. you spoke up and said something about how woman can also take advantage of men with childsupport. I really appreciated hearing you say that! My husband and I got married last year andwere both previously married. When things started falling apart,my husband told his ex-wife either he was moving out or she could. Well there was a lot more going on he
didn't know about, she moved in with her parents along with their two boys. He drove truck over the road and she took care of the boys and the bills.(so he thought) After
she moved out he found a bag of mail in the closet up stairs that she had hidden from him(Bills). then come to find out he was 6 months behind on their house and 5
months behind on a rental property he had. She had been doing things online with his ssn and got in trouble with "kiting" at a credit union..which she got her dad to take
care of that without my husband knowing anything about it. She has taken him for around 70,000 dollars and now we are paying her over 800.00 dollars a month in
childsupport. He has a really hard time with all of this because he know's the money is not being used for the boys. She is now in an apartmant of her own and we are
now being forced to move in with his parents to try and get back on our feet. As a man,it has hurt his pride and all he want's is to take care of his family.
I haven't been able to have a child and I am now 35 years old. His ex know's this and tells her 6 and 7 year old kids to say mean things to me! I know they don't know
what they are doing, but it is killing me! I can't even afford to go to the doctor to find out what is wrong, but she has insurance and can go whenever she needs. Maybe you
would have some advice for me on how to handle this woman, she is very devious and two-faced. My husband wants so bad to own his own semi and drive for himself
but since his ex has destroyed him financially, he just keeps hitting a brick wall everywhere he turns. He really needs something good to happen in his life or I'm affraid
at what might happen,he is so depressed and I can't seem to help him. The last 5 years has been nothing but a struggle working his butt off th pay her fat" " . Sorry
I just get so mad and don't know what to do....
Thank you so much for listening!

I just wanted you to know we're going through the exact same thing - well we were - and are - but we're a few years down the road on the situation. It would be cool to touch base with you and share support.

Hello Sharon ! I'm going threw some major changes in my life. I was born in July 2nd. 1952 . Life has always been so busy . A lot of us born in those years lived a pretty wild life. It was the changing times in life. I'm finding myself getting very sad . I'm looking around and somewhere along the line we got older. LOL I'm starting to feel we are a fading group of people . I sit any try to talk to people about going to a pop festival back in 69 People are clueless . Talk about seeing bands I've seen and I hear crickets in the room. About what things were like during Vietnam days and no one remembers. Has this type of feelings hit you personally? I'm sure this is just part of life but it's sad to me seeing our generation grow old . It feels like the world changed so much in our time. I know we don't live forever .
I guess I'm just surprised people are already starting to forget . Geez maybe it's just been to much snow :O) Cabin Fever. April in Tennessee
