New Romantics Trailer Remembers to Showcase Katies Holmes

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark might have been scared of featuring Katie Holmes in its marketing materials, but The Romantics certainly isn't -- Mrs. Tom Cruise appears in almost every shot of the newly released trailer. Though since the film looks like a warmed-over version of Rachel Getting Married recast with television actors, perhaps Holmes should be the one worrying.

Based on writer/director Galt Niederhoffer's own novel, The Romantics follows the type of Yale college buddies who feel the need to call themselves "The Romantics." Serious question: Do any groups of friends actually christen themselves with cheeky nicknames or does that only happen in the movies? John Hughes, what hath you wrought!?

Anyway. At the wedding of Lila and Tom (Anna Paquin and Josh Duhamel), the Romantics get back together, Big Chill-style, for a weekend of self-discovery and love triangles -- Holmes' Laura dated Tom in college and might still have feelings for him. Beers are chugged, cigarettes get smoked (what up, Malin Akerman) and Elijah Wood gives an awkward toast. All in all, expect the expected.

The enigma that is Katie Holmes looks perfectly acceptable, but when this many television actors appear on screen together -- Glee star Dianna Agron and Adam Brody show up as well -- something is probably amiss. Also an issue: That Paramount Famous Productions -- Paramount's made-for-home entertainment production shingle -- has their stamp on the front of the trailer.

VERDICT: Pass.
