Ryan Murphy Calls Modern Family Gays 'Ridiculous'

If you think Mitchell and Cameron should have kissed by now on Modern Family, Glee creator Ryan Murphy agrees with you. "I hate it on TV shows, and there's one show that I won't name right now, where it's like 'Why aren't these characters kissing? Don't they have a child?'" he said yesterday after Glee's TCA panel. "That's ridiculous to me. I don't understand it." Murphy promises that on the episode of Glee he's about to direct, Brittany and Santana will kiss several times almost as a direct response. "Weren't they doing it back on Roseanne? It is just so outdated and archaic to me and as a gay man, I would never do that." [Greg in Hollywood]

Murphy went on to add, "And in The Godfather, why didn't Michael Corleone kill more people by his own hand? He's a Mafia don! So fail."

  • I will follow Mr. Murphy's example of taking a stand against gay men not kissing by watching lesbians make out. Viva la revolution!!!

  • Allan says:

What I think is ridiculous is the fact that Glee has no plot, poor writing and bad acting.

  • stolidog says:

I don't get it. Brittany and Santana are 1) not lesbians, 2) not lovers, and 3) don't have a child. It seems an odd comparrison. It would be better compared to Courtney Cox and Jennifer Aniston on Dirt.

As a person not in a coma, I would never call a car radio's "scan" button a television show.
    Tomato, Terrible Television Show.

  • snarkymark says:

Translation: "Please, please watch Glee...there will be female make-out scenes, we promise!"

  • Reality Check says:

Well Ryan, as a gay male your views represent those of 3-5% of the male population. Most of the straight 95-97% of the male population don't want to see 2 guys kissing. And my percentages are correct; that gay "1 in 10" stuff is discredited propaganda.

  • Alex says:

@Reality Check, you mean straight guys watch Glee? And where exactly do you get those correct percentages? Pat Robertson's homepage? 12% dude. It's well documented. It's not like we make it up. And even if it were 3-5%, like that would make a difference? "Oh, well, you don't cross the magic 10% mark so you don't count". Coughbullshitcough.

  • britney says:

@REALITY CHECK... you got it right. Only 5% max population is gay/lesbian. Enough with pandering to them. I won't be watching this show. Bunch of crapola. No thanks! (that includes the show 'Dirt'. won't be watching that either.)

  • sarah says:

5 or 12% population is gay? Whatever. Neither number is large portion of audience... 88-95% of population DON'T want to see it. Enough said.

  • Brian says:

I'm just so glad there's finally an official spokesperson for the gay community on what is and isn't normal. Thank you Ryan. Wait, didn't Santana sleep with Finn? Is that normal gay behavior Ryan?

  • Tom Malone says:

Is this the future of television entertainment ? If it is, I have three flat screen TV's for sale, hell just come and get them I'll give them to you. Who watches this kind of garbage and why, it isn't real it's acting and poor acting at that. The sad fact is that to many viewers don't realize that it isn't real.
My God, what will they put on TV ten years from now.

  • DL says:

Frankly, I haven't found it to be so ridiculous that they don't kiss. I mean, yeah, they probably should have at least once by now, but I think the lack of overt affection has more to do with their relationship and less to do with the fact that they're gay. And considering that this isn't the first time someone has spoken about the lack of PDA between the two, I fully expect they'll have their fair share in season 2. I just hope the writers make it feel natural, and not forced so as to appease the people who have decided to be offended by something so silly.

  • stolidog says:

    Gross people here again.

  • pinkyt says:

Ryan Murphy, as is often the case, comes off like a bit of a bitch here to me as he often does (his manner often reminds me of a maitre de at some trendy WEHO restaurant who gives me the stink eye for looking like a schlub). That said, I agree that network fear of any PDA of a couple who happens to be gay is pretty ridiculous, the Modern Family incident is just an extreme example of that (really, would a little peck on the lips have been so offensive?). If Ryan Murphy can get Fox to show boy on boy or girl on girl action then more power to him!

  • Can I quote you in my report for school?

  • monae says:

ryan needs to stfu...what do they have to kiss for? this is y im not a fan of glee..its too much going on!

  • J says:

Brittany/Santana never actually kissed on Glee .. well not on the mouth ... So doesn't that make Ryan a total hypocrite!
