Movieline's Week in Review: We Are So Attracted to You, It Is Unbelievable
Pardon the sordid Big Brother allusion, but it's true: Your Movieline editors like you that way. But we promise to keep our hands to ourselves if you stick around to browse our latest Week in Review. And make yourself at home, because Dixon Gaines will be spinning dope beats here alllll weekend. See you in August!
· The weekend was dominated by Comic-Con, where Furies were conjured, Hoffs were loosed and, of course, nangoes were Fandangoed.
· And Kyle and Dixon talked to a ton of folks including Michel Gondry, Tommy Wiseau, Wentworth Miller and Karl Urban -- and didn't get stabbed once!
· Many thanks as well to this week's other illustrious interviewees, including Robert Duvall, Zac Efron, Kevin Kline, Jay Roach, Moment of Truth subjects Ron Galella and Leon Gast and Verge designee Stephanie Szostak.
· Mad Men returned with its season four premiere, which wasn't half bad and got strong ratings. Ad Age was having none of it, though.
· Julie and Louis hit the TCA Press Tour, answering your FAQ's and hearing from the likes of Laura Linney, Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki, and the... discursive William Shatner.
· Oliver Stone mixed it up with Jews. It could have gone better for both.
· Recaps! We got recaps, including the latest Jersey Shore and Project Runway season premieres True Blood, Warehouse 13, So You Think You Can Dance, My Life on the D-List, and a particularly nasty episode of Big Brother.
· New trailers for Sucker Punch, Yogi Bear, Titanic II (seriously), The Virginity Hit, Boardwalk Empire, Dexter and Inception with Kitties received our Two-Minute Verdict. And Thor received a special Five-Minute Verdict.
· Annnnd, they're remaking Total Recall, obviously. You weighed in.

I can't wait for that Yogi Bear movie! It has water skiing, pies in the face, and Ed!
Is the week over?? How am I supposed to know with-out Commenter of the Week?? You create a brand and then abandon it....
Commenter 0f the Week is how I knew I survived one...
A week that is...
Seriously Sunnydaze, you need to get over it. There's a perfectly fine Commenter of the Moment distinction to aspire to if it means this much to you. Have at it...
See, I thought "Post a Comment" meant "Post an Opinion". I didn't even comment this week so it isn't about winning. I think the concept of "Commenter of the Week" is brilliant even though I sometimes had issue with its execution. Why can't we have both "week" and "moment"? Why does it have to be one or the other? Want to know the big difference between COT-Moment and COT-Week? You can't use the search bar to see previous winners and I am sure my fellow commenters liked being able to show other people their win. Plus, when I am busy and don't get to comment the ONE thing I would go out of my way to view was COTW. That is what I missed last night... I read Movieline for two reasons- To see about Showbiz and to see the comments (especially the regulars) If I just wanted Showbiz news there are infinite sights to chose from. What sets you apart as a brand is the interaction. You can deny that all you want but it is TRUTH. But what bothers me the most is that you are a website based entirely on criticism of events and yet you respond so negatively to criticism. Do you expect me to always love you unconditionally? Plus, I don't understand why you think this is about me winning COTW. I do care who wins and I care if it is interesting and/or funny but I could really give a flip about me winning. I enjoy a win but I don't live for it. I do want to see at the end of the week what stories evoked the funniest and most interesting reactions from your readership. I know I am not the only one who feels this way.... That's it- I have had my say and I won't mention it beyond this discussion.
This has nothing to do with how I respond to criticism, which increasingly seems to be the first thing commenters bring up if I dare to disagree with, second-guess or rebuke them. This has to do with you turning a place for conversation and interaction into a vehicle for validation, which, frankly, is embarrassing.
Don't think I don't appreciate your investment in Movieline. All I'm saying is also don't think it entitles you to more than the best, most engaging content we can possibly deliver.
How many times do I have to say this isn't about me winning before you hear it??? I just happen to like COTW? Is that wrong? You created something which I like and that upsets you and you find it embarrassing? If I really cared about winning I would keep my mouth shut and hope you don't ever get mad at me because it could hurt my chances of winning.
Let me explain> I grew up reading Premiere. Have the first issue ever. Then Movieline... Then Entertainment Weekly... Then Official PlayStation Magazine, ect. You know what I couldn't do with these magazines? COMMENT. So, at a time when I was starting to burn out on such things Defamer came along and re-invented the way I read my news. I could now interact and have my say (unless I got banned). Then you moved over to Movieline and the relentless banning of anyone who said anything negative stopped and you became to most interesting thing I have ever read about showbiz because you not only reveal the Entertainment Industry but the people (and kooks) who follow it. So, yes, I care most about the comments not because your posts aren't wonderfully insightful, funny, and intelligent but because comments are a NEW INVENTION allowed only by the internet. COTW was my way of getting a quick fix on the week of gossip and industry news. I will tell you this> I care as much about what Old No. 7 has to say as your "official posts" and I don't always have time to search every link to see what he or my other favorites have chimed in about.
But, hey, thanks for the insult.
I do like the idea of having a way to search previous Comment of the Moments.
Either way, let's hug this out, people.
Why not have a post which showcases all of the Comments of the Moment at the end of the week? I just liked having one post dedicated to the commenters. The fact it would be a "best of" instead of a "contest" would make it much more entertaining. (Five slots made it like the Academy Awards every week and limited what you could showcase) That is my opinion and has no meaning beyond that. I really am just trying to help give you perspective on how a commenter sees things. I wish we could have had this discussion without getting personal. I just can't figure out why my eagerness to make the "commenter's post" the best it could be has been misinterpreted as "F**k, I didn't win! Screw them!".
That being said> HUG OUT! PEACE, YO!
